Good to see Buster Couch as the starter & hear good ole Steve Evans narrating! I miss both those guys!

Was 8 years old when my Dad took me to this race...my first of many Winternats. Breakfast at Bob's Big Boy in West Covina...then out for a day at the track. Not his thing, but knew his boy loved drag racing. Still race today with my 70' Duster in Super Pro & D/Gas in Heritage Series. Tyvm for posting!!

And in the UK we were just creating Santa Pod raceway. I would go there at weekends and the highlight of my every month was the arrival of the latest editions of Hot Rod and Popular Hot Rodding (PHR) magazines containing classic black and white photos of the big drag meets

The last time I went to an NHRA event. One of the top teams came to the track with 5-five full size trailers. His racing team had 3 with cars and parts. The other 2 were for hospitality for the sponsor and their supporters. In the 60's when you went to a NHRA event the crowds were huge and the top teams came with a roll back and stayed at a local hotel. NHRA is dying a slow death because they got away from what made them so popular.

Absolutely ! When the tech and traction were a work in progress you got to see 'em just roil the smoke off the tires all the way through the back door..

"drag racers don't take any chances" LMAO... nitro huffing V8 3 feet from your face running on the ragged edge of becoming a grenade at 200mph...that's not taking chances any less than a friendly game of Russian roulette! these cats ate nails for breakfast...without any milk.

I helped a guy change plugs between runs at the San Fernando Drags one time and his next run was the first recorded 200+ MPH run at that strip. Chrysler powered rail.
