HEY Richard, , i just got a 1976 F150. Upon checking the fluids i thought tranny was low idling warm, off the fluid was only about 3/8 inch up the dipstick, , so i added a couple maybe 3 quarts . It shifts into gear very hard/positively but after a 30 minute testdrive on a hot day it now seems to be possibly a quart overfull. is this a serious problem to remedy asap before i damage it somehow?

I had a 1964 Farlane 500 Wagon (Inherited from my parents) 289 and C-4 they had it rebuilt and it went out again. never ran rightafter that the Traz shop said the wagon was to big for the Tranz. I never bought that. My parents bought it new and only rebuilt the tranz once two years before I got it. it didn't make since to me 14 year after the car was bought new trans rebuilt I got the car in 1976 and it went out about two months after I got it. lost $500 on that car. love it.

at 46:10, the rooster comb pushes a pin on the park pawl linkage. On newer units I have found a bushing on that pin to make it fatter causing more 'push' while in park. There is a lot of room for the linkage to move away during drive selections so no problem for the pawl being too close while moving. Thanks for this video! Best wishes to your mother, hope she has a swift and complete recovery. I went thru a similar situation with my 94 year old father. I need some advice. I have a 71 Cutlass with a TH400. It's not exhibiting any problems, but I think it's time for a filter change. What type of gasket do you recommend ? Keep up the good work, see you in the next video. At 36:50, the bellhousing that bolted to the case,(not to the pump at all), was originally for a truck or van application. The wider bolt stance and not being attached to the pump made them stronger in 2 regards,(pumps leaked less and motor connection was stronger). Then they made the C-5 (lock-up torque converter version) that also had the bellhousing bolted to the case.

Will a c4 bolt to a 302 ? Please , and thanks.
@johnrussell6620
22 күн бұрын
@@Southernshaker There are a couple of different bellhousing bolt patterns. 221 & 260 & early 289's had 5-bolt bellhousings, (I had an early 5-bolt 289 in my '65 Mustang), so if you try to use a transmission from an early vehicle, it will not workout without changing the bellhousing. '67 up is probably ok as all 302's have the 6-bolt bellhousing. What trans do you have? There are 4, 6, & 8-cylinder models. Input and output shafts can be different. There are Small Block FMX's and SB C-6's were made as well. What trans do you have? Are you sure? Torque converters and flex plates have to match as this engine is "EXTERNAL BALANCED" so the balancing weights have to be correct for your engine & transmission as well. Please check your details carefully. Big answer for a seemingly small question. Good Luck on your project!

That is not the original transmission to that car. The 1967 C4's all had the vent tube on the side fastened with a little bracket to the servo cover. When the vent is on the tail housing I think that started around 71-72 somewhere in there.
@GaryH-pw9cm

The push in modulator was used in the later transmission case. Also, the snap ring is not the correct snap ring. Should check the torque converter as it may not be the correct one for this transmission. There was an early 65-69 and late 70 and up torque converter. Also I would check the locator pins in the engine for the bell housing. They may be missing. Also the blocking plate may be missing causing converter problems. There are different blocking plates. There were several different flex plates used over the years also to add to the confusion. 🤔

I had a 74 mustang with a c4. Ammco rebuilt it with the shift kit I put in it. They could not figure out what to do with the new modulator. Since new it would always shift to first when you kicked it into passing gear. Ammco never figured it out! In 76 they rebuilt it for 2400 and never got it right. 50mph and hit passing and it tacked over 6000 before you could get off it. Any idea what that would be? Always wondered. Thanks for the video.

Hmmm. looks like a bit like an A4LD precursor. Was it built in France? I don't know where the C4s were actually built but their carry-ons were French. I'm too young at 55(LOL) to know the history of the C4. But I do know the A4LD. Was it Livonia? Doubt it but not sure. Where were those things made? Ford based the E4OD on the center support bearing(the tiny, little, insufficient bushing in the output shaft on the A4LD. Did it work? Nope! It is so much fun to see the originals and know how things evolved for better or worse. Ford borrowed way too much from the old to make the new. Respect to the old and regret that they based the new on it. 25 Year retrospect. :)
