One thing I always loved about Thunder Birds was how the instrument panel just rolled around to the console and they both wrapped around the driver. Everything was centered around the driver, like the driver's own separate cockpit. A true personal luxury car!

I was 22 y/o and had a 68 (it ran but needed some work) when I went into the Air Force. My brother and his wife fell on hard times... I told my brother to sell it for a motor and tires for his car and a transmission for her car. They both kept their jobs!

My family had a 68 T-Bird that we sold in 1978. I bought a 69' T-Bird. Both cars had a 429ci Thunderjet Motor. Loved those cars and I love this one. What a beauty.

My parents had the 1967 4-door Landau with the 428, brittany blue with dark blue vinyl top and the same interior you see here, but in dark blue. It was an elegant ride. The 428 never had a single issue, very quiet and refined. They loved it. We replaced the worthless factory soft shocks with heavy duty shocks....what a difference, made the ride very controlled and much more nimble. Back then firm shocks coupled with those soft luxury car springs made for a much better driving experience. I miss that car.

The only thing more handsome than the front is the rear. On the Tudor, rear quarter glass retracts horizontally into the C pillars. Rear window defroster, AC vents to the rear seats, tilt-away steering, hydraulic multi-speed wipers (you could set them to intermittent). Sequential rear turns, hideaway headlights. The power window switches weren't on the doors but in the center console. A 5 inch wide strip of polished aluminum going right down the center of the headliner. So cool. The rear seats made you look and feel like a million bucks when you sat back there. From the drivers seat, you sat in a freakin' cockpit. What's cooler than that?

before the mkiii came along , the T-Bird faced such cars as the Toro, the Riv and the Eldo. But it gave a good account of itself, sales-wise, perhaps doing 50,000 per year. that's a lot of T-birds !

In 1967, Ford was starting to make 4-door models is because they wanted to see if it would become a successful idea to turn the car into a family sedan. But, It only lasted until 1971 in this body style due to I guess not good sales. After 1971, the T-Bird went back to just 2-door models until the end of production in 2005.

Incredible design, I rank this with some of the more exotic euro cars of the time by Citroen and Mercedes. Though the T bird was probably more advanced, certainly a lot more powerful and also probably cost more; as many US motors of the 60s and 70s did!

But the Galaxie was Ford's bread and butter family car. The 67 T-Bird was meant to be more of a "Junior" Lincoln. Even had the same rear doors as the Continental.

Never understand why this car, or the other thunderbird generations that followed are not considered classic..the 55 was a nice car but (as the early Corvette) it looked too much as any Italian or British sports car. Usually people only remember the Chevelle, Camaro or mustang as classic, but this one looks classy and even better than a Cadillac from the same era.
