I have one of those, but in a 1965 version. My Aunt bought it in the 60's from the factory in Kalamazoo. She passed away in the 70's and my mom played it for years till she passed in 2014. Now I have it and it still sounds amazing.

I went into the store to buy a Martin. I came out in 1968 with a B25n because the bass was clean and powerful and the instrument sounded so much brighter than the Martin. Also the neck was narrower for my feminine hand. Haven't played it much in the last 20 years, but am starting to do just that.

@gomarcphil it comes out of Emajor. Then you put your middle finger on F# and your 3rd finger on A or 2nd fret Low E string and 2nd fret on the G string. Then bring it all up a half step at a time.

I recently bought a Gibson LG-1 for $350. It was pretty beat up, but the plastic bridge was replaced with a rosewood bridge, has grover tuning machines, already been refretted and set up with a VERY low action. Pickguard removed for improved tone. It sounds and plays incredible.

Brilliant video. Excellent advice and WHAT a guitar. That might just be the fit for me. I want a parlour with as big and bright a sound as possible.

I still have my 1971 Gibson B-25. I had a new bridge and new tuning machines installed around 1977. I bought it for about $250 brand new, which included a hard shell case. It was the second guitar I ever bought and I bought it strictly because it played so easily.

That was a high price for those in 1971. In 1965 they went for less than 160.00. But still great anyway. 250.00 today (2018) gets you an Ibanez or a Yamaha or a Fender all made in China. Not bad, really, but not as good as a Gibson from 1971 even though it was the beginning of the Norlin era.

@victav Well for a 1967 Gibson I took the risk. And I got a great deal because the person had no idea what they had. Never pass up the opportunity to take a risk on a cheap vintage guitar!

That's awesome! I love those Gibson LG-shape acoustics. I've been looking for a good one (or even a good clone) for under $800, and it's not very common. Most of the off-brand guitars that would be close are more of a L-00 style, rather than the LG/F-25 body shape. BUT, I did just discover the Farida Old Town series that Elderly Instruments puts out. They are a copy of the LG series guitars, which very few other guitar companies make (except for Eastman and a few really selective luthiers). The most affordable is the OT-22, which has a solid spruce top and mahogany back and sides. They sound incredible, and sell for $379. I don't have one yet because they're back-ordered. But you can bet your sweet tail that I'm buying one as soon as they arrive.

Thx. I still have my b25 that I bought in 1963 or so when i was about 20. What are the notes on the quick lick you play just after the d chord at the beginning of the music.? It looks like you hit the e then a c followed by a c sharp then a g chord and then repeated. It sounds so cool but i cant seem to get the rhythm or follow that sequence even on slow speed. Thx

B-25s are a smaller body than a J-45 or J-50 and not as slope shouldered. They're basically the same size as a Martin 00-18. Great guitars and yes, they are much more affordable. Real Gibson resonant sound, little cannons.

so did you get it that cheap simply because the finish was a wreck on it?? When I see a price that low I always think to myself "whats the catch?" What kind of risks could I expect if I go into the market and pick up something super cheap like that. Is it like buying a vintage car, where you can buy for cheap but then wind up spending a fortune on restoration??

The burst and bridge aren't very attractive. In late 60s the narrow nut width and broomstick necks are unplayable for some. Now prices are absolutely absurd. The only thing keeping me working

some Lennon's J-160e from 70's are almost cheapest than B-25
@NorthWriter
7 жыл бұрын
Yeah, but they aren't great guitars. They're so over-braced that it kills the sound. I really want the J-160s to sound awesome and blow me away, but they have yet to do it, unfortunately. And most of the 70s Gibsons are square-shoulder versions. Most dreadnought models (like the J-45 and J-50) switched from that really awesome slope-shoulder to the square shoulder in about 1969.
