This game is special because of the Ed Charles performance. Ed was such a classy player who overcame a ton of adversity and bias during his early life and professional baseball career. Thank you for posting this wonderful memory.

Notice how the audio of commercials is clearer than that of the ballgame

Thanks again. So nice to listen to a game that isn’t all home runs, walks and strikeouts !

thanks for the upload. kooz as rookie. when baseball was baseball, singles, stolen bases, doubles in the gap and maybe good pitching. Jones hit 297 in 68 which was like hitting 320 in a normal year. sounds better at 1.25 speed perhaps. Also one wonderful thing I noticed was that clicking around in this broadcast, it's almost impossible to stumble upon inning break commercials! what a pleasure

1968 Mets games have been very, very hard to come by in trading circles. Thanks for posting.

The one thing I love about these old broadcasts other than my baseball cards coming to life again, is the game pacing. The pace of ball games are so much better. No nonsense get in the batters box take your swings. Today's game the pace is all fouled up. To slow too many delays and pitching changes.....

Well said. If I'm not mistaken I do believe that they had a time limit between pitches in those days.

Love this. First game I ever went to in person was the day before this game - Mets vs. Dodgers, June 23, 1968. Would love to find a radio recording or tv recording of that game.

I had gone to my first 20 days before -- Tigers vs. Red Sox at Fenway Park, a twi-night doubleheader. I've been seeing old Tigers games posted here lately, so maybe there's a chance one or both of those games can be found.

That fell on a Numerator Sunday (23/30 as disguised on so many 1968 calendars)!

Thanks so much for sharing. Only issue: It's the Mets v. Reds at Crosley Field in Cincinnati. Small error, and Thanks for sharing!

I love listening to these rebroadcasts. Kind of like a time machine. I’m 10 years old again and sweet childhood memories.

June 24, 1968 fell on a Monday--and I had just moved to California the week before! The following Monday would be July 1.

Except for Jones, Grote and Charles, no one on that Mets team hit a lick that year, but their pitching caught everyone's attention. First time in their history people took the Mets seriously.

Tommy Helms at second for the Reds. Awesome! Starter for NL at 2nd in the All Star game. Amazing fielder. Like a hot knife going thru butter

Something about this particular game... the ability to position themselves to win a game that shouldn't be won - granted even if it's Dave Bristol's terrible decisions to go WAAAY too long with both Ritchie and Kelso - foreshadows what would happen for the next 16 months in Flushing. Something is coming into focus on THIS very night...

All those walk off, extra inning wins in 1969 were losses in 1968. They had the complete reverse luck and the bullpen was a mess. The 1968 version lost some 13 or 14 extra inning games.
