Sweet! Great job bringing her back to life! That DT-250 model brings back fond memories - that was the time when I first got into dirt riding and one of my friends owned that same model of DT-250, which I thought was awesome. Another friend owned its smaller brother the AT-125 with the same paint scheme -- sweet bike, too. BTW, is that a TS-400 that you own, too? My friend STILL owns a TM-400, which I understand riders referred to as a widow maker. Well, he dropped a ton of money to correct that. And, I owned the first model of the TS-185 Sierra, which was a great trail bike - wish I still had her. Super reliable, good power, nice handling characteristics. Thanks for sharing, Xtman!

You have serious mechanical skills. Man I wish I did. 😔 It always amazes me watching rebuilds and the end product. Awesome.

I also fell in love with the first one I saw. It was 1968 and I was in Japan at a local Yokohama Yamaha dealer. The owner of the shop jumped up on the bike, kicked it once, hit the throttle, dropped it to one side so his foot would reach the floor and did a 180 in the middle of his extremely small shop. We were only allowed to have 125cc or smaller bikes but I vowed someday I'd have one. It took a long time, and my first was a 1972 rather than a 68, but it was close enough.

That is super cool, man! How did you find original parts for a bike that old? Well great job, it looks awesome!

Trevor Jameson Parts were tough. Ebay mostly saved my butt and a company called KDI that makes reproduction parts for the old DT’s. The ‘68 has some really rare parts on it that sell for a lot. A ‘68 DT1 in showroom shape can bring $10,000.00! It’s a cool old bike, I love cruising around town on it. I have some carb work to do still, it’s a bit sluggish on take off. Running a bit rich at my altitude. Thanks for watching and commenting!!!!

Tom Maples Thanks for watching, The DT1 is a great example of the old school! It’s been fun to ride around and I got attached to it instantly. It’s Yamahas first real dual sport and I have its younger brother the 1980 XT 250. Yamahas first 250cc, 4 stroke dual sport. I would consider selling the DT1 to a good home though. It’s the most desired model these days. Over all its in good condition and ready to keep riding. Or be taken to the next level with an engine rebuild and restore. They are worth a lot when fully restored. I’m going to get it out here in a few days. It’s been in storage since October. I’ll post a quick video of getting it going and taking a spin.
