My first car was a brand new 1968 Opel Kadette. I got a Borg-Warner 8 track which cost more than one month car payment. I was 17 getting ready for my Senior year, so I got some big stick-on hippie 🌸 flowers and put on it. It was baby blue. Drove it from San Antonio to San Francisco and back the next year and also to New York and back a year later. My dad had a 68 yellow station was go and I kept it in Austin one summer, while he drove it up to OK. Good times.

My first car was a 68 Kadette. Exactly like this one down to the color and the upholstery. It had an aftermarket radio that someone had put in under the dash. Bought it for $600 in Sept 1977. Blew the engine six weeks later. Thanks for the memory!

First car I ever had. 1968 Opel Kadette LS Red with a black interior. Bought for $1,000 in 1970. Wonderful flipping car .would pay good money to find one in good shape.

I agree I flipped 1 in 1972 and it rolled 2 and 1/2 times and landed upside down on top of me. Almost killed me. Pretty sure that 1 ended up in junk yard.

Great video. My 1st car was a used Opel Kadett coup. I think it was a 1970 pale yellow with black vinyl top and black interior. It was in great shape. I loved that car! I drove it all over the north east for years. I remember that long stick in the floor. I was young maybe 20, (so that makes it over 45 years ago). Also there weren't too many girls driving a stick shift back then. I got a lot of cool points for that! Wish I still had her.

I had one of these as my first car. Dad paid $500 for it in 1976. Loved the rocker switches for light and other controls. BTW, the Brake rocker switch allowed you to test the functionality of the Brake Warning light; I think it would illuminate if there was a fault with the braking system.

Wow that is pretty cool. I like the info on the brake switch. I really liked that car and wanted it for myself. I don't think I had any room for it. The only bad thing that car was just a neighborhood car because it really had no power.

My first car was the 1968 Opel Kadett 2 Door sedan Dark Navy Blue ($1,600) with the 1,100 cc engine (65 cubic inches) 4 cylinders that wobbled inside under the hood while idling. The gas tank was a 10 gallon can sitting in the trunk on the left side. Loved the easy shifting of the long gear shift handle. Took a while to build up speed, but was very economical on gas which was only 25 cents a gallon back then. Very fun car for an 18 year old! Wish I still had it!

First car I ever drove was my Dad's brand-new 1.1-liter 1970 Kadett 2-door sedan. Didn't even have an interior dome light. It was about 1500 pounds curb weight, and was a lot of fun to drive. It made one horsepower for each of the 63.5 cubic inches. It took a lot of jiggling the choke to keep it running in cold weather, and I can still see Pop driving on a sub-zero morning working the choke with his left hand and rolling Raleigh pipe tobacco in OCB papers while shifting with his right. Amazingly roomy, with room for five adults in a pinch, but four comfortably, and the trunk was HUGE!

Had a '68 Kadette Karavan I got for $300 from original owner. I put whitespokes & big all-terrain tires on her, then bolted 4 KC lights on the roof. Made a nice lil' Baja out of the wagon. '

Not the 68 but like, the 69 and later were all over the place in the 70's. I almost bought a 71 kadett rallye when I was 17. They had a 1.9 litre and it was possible to tune them relatively cheaply, or so I was told.

Bahahaha, I just found what's left of a Opel Kadett LS in the woods in Staten Island, found a aluminum trim plate with the Kadett LS on it ,but most of it's gone, except for a few plastic parts & rusted out taillights.....kept the aluminum trim with the Kadett LS on it

I have got a very good hint for you to keeping the nice old ohv + cih in good shape with todays ultra dry eco fuels: Use 1:100 API TC two stroke oil / fuel mix as regular driving fuel, that keeps the old fuel-system gaskets, rubber parts, alloy parts etc... and cast iron metal surfaces of those vintage engines in excellent shape...and it also lubricates the valves and upper piston regions. Most Mercedes vintage owners in Germany do so :)

My mom had one about 1972. Ours had a console. I know because that is where I sat when our family of 6 went to grandma's house two hours away. Unfortunately, it didn't survive my brother's driving lesson when he tried to take a corner going about 45. We crashed into a fencepost that was almost as big as the car.

My mother bought an Opel Kadett back in the late 60's. God I hated that car, she smoked in the car and it always made me car sick. It lacked power, going up hills was a challenge with any weight. Still as a 12 year old, I learned how to use the choke and the clutch.

I am in the U.S. I have found a 1970 Opel Kadett L 1900 Wagon. After several months of pursuing, I finally caught someone there and have the chance to buy it. I really want to start my collection with this car. My boyfriends family have several cars they have done and more waiting in line (they keep all of them and we take them to various shows). He told me that before we buy the Opel I have to make sure we can find parts( especially window seals) fast. I can not purchase the car if I can not find restoration parts. Even if we must go out of country to get them. I really love this car!! Can anyone help me?
