Make sure to check out Minuteman Studio’s (@minutemanstudios1338 ) channel! His content is fire and insanely underrated! Sub to him (and me too I guess)
In the 506th in 1970-71, my dad said that they were not allowed boonie hats, used them in the field and in some firebases but in camp, not allowed. Apparently brigade or battalion CO thought they looked bad. Also, they wore no slings in the rifle because they would get caught on everything in the jungle, mostly in the ashau valley.

Little Brother Gear was set up for you. You personalized it based on what you can scrounge, experience level IE a boot straight from training might set his up like his team leader and squad leader told him to. You might change out to canteen pouches for your magazines. 5 20 round magazines fit in the pouch without the canteen. Most only carried gas masks if they were using CS on the operation.

note about the C-Ration Accessory packet, that one is one put in early MRE's, you can tell because the pack includes a plastic spoon in the packet itself

That spot on that can was probably where a P 38 may have been attached to it. You’ve got to have a P 38 on your pot.

In the early sixties my father, Army, still on active duty till early seventies, I was about 8 yrs old, anyway, he gave me a lot of the stuff you have, stuff for me play with as a kid, it was just junk, novelty items for me that he got somewhere, extras, supply left overs in his unit, Ft Carson....whatever he picked up for me to play with, pretend. As I got older and lost interest in Army gear, it was lost or thrown away. He did three wars, WW2, Korea, Vietnam. All that stuff was fun when I was a kid.

If your still interested you should collect military gear from the eras he fought in! That's so cool that he fought in ww2, korea and vietnam. Intersting. Thanks for sharing✊🏻

Same here, still have some of my dads gear from his time in vietnam. Used to love it when he'd bring home c-rats after being on maneuvers while stationed in Germany in the mid 60's!

@@SteelPot1970 Sometimes you get lucky with Ebay. I got a WWII era McCord ex fixed bale shell that was converted postwar to Swivel bale plus P55 liner for $60 a couple years back. Just recently converted that one to a Airborne helmet since I came into a 1967 Airborne liner that came with a late WWII Schleuter helmet. The liner still had the original chincup and sweatband in it. I posted a video of the Airborne helmet on my channel.

Buy a OG502 Poncho for your collection. I got lucky a couple years ago at a estate sale scoring a Mint condition one for $10.

I don't think it is. I've seen some 1st Cav guys with them late war. Mine came with my rucksack so I didn't buy them separately. You might be able to find some on eBay or other online stores for a decent price.
