On March 27, 1969, Queen Elizabeth II visited the Royal Regiment of Artillery at Woolwich as Captain General. The grand occasion was marked by the playing of marching bands, the national anthem, and a salute from the guard of honor. The Queen, walked down the line of heavy artillery, which included guns mounted on tracked vehicles and guided missiles.

The King's Troop, Royal Horse Artillery, 1st Regiment Royal Horse Artillery, 7th Parachute Regiment, Royal Horse Artillery, 40th Light Regiment, 95th Commando Light Regiment, 42nd Medium Regiment, 16th Light Air Defence Regiment, Second Field Regiment, and tanks and armored vehicles.
The Royal Regiment of Artillery was founded in 1716 and was based in the Royal Arsenal Woolwich, where its soldiers were housed in barracks.
These impressive new barracks, built between 1776 and 1802, were located on Woolwich Common and served as the headquarters of the Royal Regiment of Artillery until 2007.
The Royal Artillery Barracks, Woolwich, were a key part of the Woolwich Garrison and played a crucial role in the history of the Royal Artillery.
Also known as "The Gunners," the Royal Artillery is a revered and proud branch of the British Army with a rich history that dates back to its establishment in 1716.
