Perhaps the most spectacular play in Tennessee's 38-7 conquest of Florida was Jackie Walker's return of an interception 19 yards for a touchdown, the second straight game in which the brilliant junior linebacker had scored with a purloined pass. There was no way Walker was going to be stopped short of the goal. He bounded over one player to catch the ball and then leaped over a couple of others as he hurdled into the end zone.
Walker's heroics aside, however, the day bore the special stamp of Bobby Scott, who seldom was mentioned in the same breath with the nations's more renowned quarterbacks but had the compensation of frequently beating them.
Florida, poised to blunt the feared Tennessee running game, pretty well accomplished its goal. But emphasis on the ground defense opened the passing gates for Scott, whose 385 yards through the air in 21 completions erased the individual passing record set by Bubba Wyche in 1968. Scott who fired two touchdown passes to Joe Thompson was named AP national back of the week and won a spot in UPI's national weekly backfield.
