Love watching games on TV from Three River stadium. Love their organ player. Mets fan here! But love watching the 70s Pirates and Reds hitting lineups. Love Willie Stargell's batting stance. Keep this classics coming.

I was a BIG baseball fan back during that time. I recall watching that game on a black & white TV, I was a young 13yr old and ENJOYED ALL 9 innings of that game.....Damn good memories!!....One more thing, that was the last time ANY team would ever PRODUCE 4 20 game winners from their pitching staff.....Jim Palmer, Dave McNally, Mike Curellar and Pat Dobson.... With a manager like Earl Weaver and what he EXPECTED from his pitchers, it's NO surprise.....Earl Weaver..RIP

Only the 1921 CHISOX matched BALTY’s four 20 or more WINNERS.. The WSOX hurlers did it in a 154 game season, two seasons following the BLACK SOX SCANDAL where most of their banned players came from non-mound field position players. As for Pat Dobson, he never ever before that season, and only one time thereafter(19Ws) approached 20 WINS. Some also forget that MCNALLY, and PALMER did the duo for at least 20, not once, but twice = ‘70, &71, and that CUELLAR, PALMER, and not counting ‘71, MCNALLY did the trio once in 1970. Palmer coming off an injury bout that cost him ‘67 and almost all of ‘68, “only” went 16-4 in ‘69’s campaign. McNALLY won at least 20 in ‘68(Comeback Player of the Year after an injury riddled ‘67), 69, 70, and 71. He won 17 and 16 in ‘73&74 before being traded to MONTREAL in ‘75, where a lack of any kind of fastball prompted his voluntary retirement midway thru that season. If ANDY MESSERSMITH of the DODGERS had re-upped with LA, signing a new contract for ‘76, it was a determined to stay retired car dealership owning and operating, and unsigned for ‘76 in baseball MCNALLY that was to be the lone standby replacement lawsuit filer as orchestrated by PLAYERS ASSOCIATION non-playing DIRECTOR/LAWYER, MARVIN MILLER, part of an effort to strike down the RESERVE CLAUSE. The LAWSUIT as it turned out was filed with MESSERSMITH AND MCNALLY’s names on it. For the whole ‘75 season MESSERSMITH played without an LA contract and after JUDGE ANDREW SEITZ struck down the Clause, ANDY MESSERSMITH signed with ATLANTA and MCNALLY stayed retired. What a legacy! R.I.P., DAVE MCNALLY at age 60, two decades ago, dying from cancer.

Interesting. When did they change from having an all dirt infield to turf infield at 3 rivers back then?

The pirates got hot at the right time. Their pitching was good, but not that great. Bruce Kison turned the series around. The Orioles Achilles heel was consistent hitting, ehicubshowed up in short post-seadom series, as was the case in 1969 and 1974, also. They were close to halving a dynasty from 1966 to 1973.
