Started my service career at the local Cadillac dealership in 1974. This car represents extremely well the one or two year old Cadillacs we had coming in for service or that were sitting on the front row of the used car lot. Beautiful car Jay, and I have fond memories of the quality and how they drove.

I've owned four 1972 Fleetwoods and this is a beautiful example. A few things I noticed: The rub strips along both sides of the car are replacements -- not original. (The originals had a rubber inlay the same color as the roof that ended in a point ahead of the taillights. These rub strips seem to be covered with white tape.) The passenger side outside mirror was a dealer install -- the factory version would have a remote joystick to the right of the radio. (And that's the bare-bones, three-speaker monaural AM-FM unit -- not stereo.) It's unusual for a Fleetwood in not having the fiber-optic lamp monitors on the front fenders and rear package shelf. Beginning Jan. 1, 1972 they became optional equipment, in an effort to bring the sticker price down in an era of price controls and high inflation. And lastly, the fabric windlace molding along the rear edge of the driver door opening is extremely frayed -- unusual for a car with such low mileage. Also I wonder if at some point this car had at least a partial respray. It looks like there's paint on the driver side lower rear quarter molding. Also, the front seats are not "power on each side" (8:16). The passenger side seat has the manual adjuster: i.ebayimg.com/00/s/ODAwWDEyMDA=/z/tQUAAOSwXGhjv2gh/$_57.JPG

The particular body side moldings appearing on this car, running from just aft of the front wheel arches, across the doors, across the rear quarter side marker lights, and ending just forward of the taillights are not original to this car. These cars left the factory with body side molding, but they were a different style. I can only speculate as to why this car’s body side moldings were removed and replaced. I've been a Cadillac buff since these were new. I've been following them and pricing since then too. I even have a few of my own. You're pretty much in the ballpark at 18. People have to realize that if they actually plan to drive this car, because he said it it has all the original hoses, belts, etc. they are ALL going to have to be replaced. You can't drive a 50 year old car with original belts and hoses. Probably the tires as well. Unless, of course, you want to make it a trailer queen.
@brockricci
Жыл бұрын
I believe he mentioned those are newer tires... would not have had the gold stripe, and the white wall would have been slightly wider. My guess is the belts and hoses have been replaced at least once at some point during maintenance. 51 years is a long time, buona fortuna, paesan'!
@retroguy9494
Жыл бұрын
@@brockricci You're right. He DID say 'newer tires' but HOW new? You can put tires on a car, not drive it hardly at all and over time, even if stored in a garage, the tires will still dry rot, break down or get flat spots. As a collector myself, I have had this experience even when presented with receipts of when the tires were replaced when I bought the car. You are also correct when you say the tires are not 'period correct' with that gold stripe and thinner white wall. But don't guess on anything regarding belts and hoses. He said the ball joints, shocks and muffler were replaced. On a 26K original mile car, you never know what has been replaced. Case in point. When I bought by 1984 Coupe Deville about 13 years ago, it had 24K original miles. It only had one owner and it was garaged. However, she was in an assisted living for the last 15 years or so of her life and the car just sat. You have no idea what I had to replace on that car. You name it and it needed it. Belts, hoses, tires, bulbs, wipers, air conditioning work, brakes, rotors, alternator, etc. Even the oil pan gasket is leaking but I never replaced it because its a very small drip and it would necessitate dropping the whole oil pan. I've spent over $7K on that car. It's not good to just let a car sit and not run it. So when I see a car with this kind of mileage, unless it can be otherwise proven, I assume it's going to need a LOT of replacement parts!
