Those were the days! .. and we all sat down to dinner together after the match

A flowing game of running and passing. When rugby was great.

Yes, because the forwards had to last the full 80 minutes so they were not built like brick outhouses.

Some beautiful rugby from the French, lovely change of angles as well as keeping their depth something that many in the modern era aren't very good at as they often overun the ball.

France were always great to watch back then . They've lost a lot of that "flair" in the modern era though

Return the rules to substitutes only for injuries and the forwards will get smaller. And if they remain huge then the opposition will run them off the park in the second half and massive holes will open up in the defensive line.

Back when the game was nominally amateur; though the French were not always playing by "amateur' rules. So-called modern game, with professionals and Laws interpreted to keep side in possession of the ball, in possession of the ball until "more points" can be scored, has reduced "flow" and running and handling. More now about "crashing and bashing" with euphemism of "phases". The bashing requires larger players and thus rather than 80 minutes of fitness required, 8 subs are available and the clear use of an 'injury" unseen and minor to require stoppage of play to give larger bodies a rest, This ploy could be handled by requirement that all "injuries" be treated off the field....serious ones are anyway...but if one "goes down" with a booboo, must leave the field for x amount of time before rejoinging play which has continued. Used to be a game worth playing and promoting.....Not for me any longer the case.

Athletic, agile players running into space and looking to pass, instead of trying to win the collision and set up another phase.

Except for the fact that the All Blacks employed a win at all costs attitude which included blatant cheating.

A right royal thrashing, but then we English were used to that.
