You are most correct. Mr. Hammond and Mr. Leslie didn't get along, for personal reasons. By 1974 Mr. Hammond and Mr. Leslie shook hands, made amends and got along well until Mr. Hammond's passing in 1975. My 1977 Concorde actually says "Leslie" on the yellow tabs. This 1972 Concorde is identical to one that Lenny Dee did some recording on - Dee being my favorite organist which lead to my 1977 Concorde which I still have.

I got a 1971 Hammond Concorde show organ, it was black and white, had a white leather seat, chrome pedals all across the bottom, built in cassette,some of the tabs in the rhythm section were bossa nova, samba, rock, waltz, tango, march, etc... had built in Leslie speakers, had piano, banjo, guitar, violin, flute, etc... Had vibrato, sustain, reverb, as a present for my 11th birthday in 1971. I had outgrown the Hammond I learned on, and my grandmother took me to an organ and piano store to look for a better organ. The salesman had her sold on a nice midsized hammond, costing around $6000. However, I wasn't impressed and was wandering around in the store when I looked through the window of a small room and saw 3 organs in there. I opened the door and one of the organs was a church pipe organ, the other 2 organs turned out to be identical Concorde organs, but 1 was in cherry wood and the other was black and chrome with a white leather seat. I shut the door, sat down and turned on the black and chrome one. I played it for several minutes, and was smitten, I wanted this organ or no organ. My grandmother and the salesman came into the room, and I told her that this was the organ I wanted. She said that we are getting the other organ, and I said, no, I won't play it. I want this one or forget it. My grandmother asked the salesman how much did it cost?, and he said it was $11,500. She looked at me and I looked at her, my mind was made up. The salesman said that he would give her a thousand on my old organ as a trade in, and the next day I had the most fantastic organ I have ever seen or played sitting in our living room. But I lost it in 1982 and since then I haven't been able to find one like it anywhere,(in this finish). I've searched the internet, utube, researched as much as I can find on this organ, is there anyone who reads this post that knows of this organ, my organs tabs were completely different from the organ being shown here. I can't find what model of Concorde mine was, it wasn't a B3, because it's speakers were built into the cabinet, it's not a C3, B2, or C2. Someone please help me! Thanks

The H-100 was Hammonds slam against the Leslie speaker. The original H models had 32 section stereo vibrato scanners and in my own opinion, the H-100 was the best sounding tone wheel organ Hammond ever made. It was also the most troublesome instrument made at the time.

Absolutely!!! Hands down ... The Rotosonic Leslie sounds like crap and takes a month to get up to tremolo speed.... Don Leslie started with the Rotosonic and shelved it for the split treble horn / 15" bass setup that you hear Instantly. The power and divided network in a 122, 145, 47, Totally outguns the single 6x9 rotating on a drum anyday !

I just bought one of those organs last year (Model 2312). I actually fell in love with it when I gave it a test play. Of course, it had that same humming sound at first, but after cleaning and a littleTLC, the sound is amazing (no humming). I was very fortunate to find this organ on craigslist with very little issues to it that I managed to fix myself without breaking the bank.

Chad, I just sold my mint Hammond Elegante on Christmas ever for $650. FYI I'd listed it in October for 1 week for $900 and got one offer for $750, and one for $500. So that $650 was okay I guess. I bought it for $150 two years ago and played it a lot! I got lucky buying it because the seller had listed the wrong telephone number and I was the first email ( 2 days after listed). Lucky me. As far as tone on the Elegante, (successor of this Concorde), it was pretty amazing actually cont...

Laurens Hammond died in 1973 and I know the later models said Leslie on them. Laurens Hammond and Don Leslie not getting along did have a silver lining though. Imagine if Hammond had put rocker switches or theater tabs on on their organs for switching the Leslie ON/OFF FAST/SLOW instead of the 'add on' approach of placing them on the front. AWESOME> Place a simple directional mic pointed at Leslie drum and run the mic through your computer's sound card (ie. Creative Sound Blaster,Cathedral).

cont.2 Hammaround also added a high powered 6x9 coaxial in place of the Rotosonic Leslie speaker. This adds the shimmering effect of the Leslie horn. He powers it with a 300 watt pwr. amp. He has posted some videos- ' Hammond Concorde Organ Improv ' . Chad, if you notice the percussion seems to play on every note, like Hammond began on the T series, there is a neat trick to get the original 'touch percussion'. Just put REPEAT PERC- ON and adjust the repeat very low. Now it works like orig:-)

cont. The tone of the Elegante really is excellent on the whole and everything works really well together. Of course I am referring to the Elegante, but the Concorde is similar. THE 2100 Concorde is a nightmare compared to the 2300. They worked out many bugs by the 2300. The Elegante used digital keying to trigger tones ( not make them) so it is far more reliable. Hammaround on YT has boosted his gain by turning up trim pots ( if you go to far it kicks breaker, LOWER setting & turn back on) cont

The earlier model series has some issue but your model is the second version which makes it ok. The hum is coming from the power supply and amp. It just needs to be work on. (not expensive). The Leslie is suppose to take that long because it a rotorsonic speaker to sound more theater. The upper manual contact needs cleaning.

I'm looking to get rid of the Baldwin Orgasonic monster I have in here and have been checking Craigslist for a nice Hammond M100, I know someone some day will have one up there, for a pittance because they don't want to move the monster thing. Either that or a Novachord but that would be a pipe dream and a TON of work to restore, but Novachords are amazing synthesizers.

attack that rhythm unit with some contact cleaner, that switch may be in line with the upper manual. Also clean all the edge contacts on the boards with some brasso and then clean them with contact cleaner, seems like all your LSI IC's are good so this may just need all it's contacts cleaned.

One time we went to work on an H-100 series (I think that's what it was) which had a bearing squeal in the tone generator. We put in several doses of oil in the oil ports over several weeks but were never able to fix it...over the past few years I have learned about applying LPS-2 directly to the bearings from underneath for fixing an M-100 series with the same problem. We likely could have fixed that H-100 had we known about it then.

The Concord was a very nice sounding organ but prone to many failures. I have had to work on them in past years. The Elegante is a far superior sounding instrument with less problems than the Concord. I was very good friends with the late Alan Young who was one of the head Hammond engineers. He had a Concord in his living room that had a couple of wierd problems that he could never fix in spite of the fact that he was a superb technician.

The Hammond X-66 I added to my collection last Spring has been amazing me ever since. And I am a die hard electromechanical organ fanatic- Hammond Tone Wheels and Wurlitzer Electrostatic Reed, but the X-66 is built extremely well. Nothing cheap at all about it. Solid draw bars, keys,hardware, cabinet,components, everything! The Hammond Elegante I had for a couple of years, that I sold last December, was also very well made. However, the X-66 has a far more professional tone! See- Larry Fararri

I own a CONCORDE and love it. What I can not understand is why they put the LESLIE controls over to the right! They either didn't think that out or wanted to piss people off! I, like many organists prefer them to be on the left. I wish I knew how to relocate them and also replace them since I have one broken tab. Overall this is a super organ. I played two different lounge jobs on the X-77 and found it to be a good lounge type instrument but difficult to keep working correctly. My favorite lounge instrument will always be the X-66 and second favorite would be the B-3 and 122 Leslie. If you have a chance to play one that is in good playing condition try an H-100. The stereo vibrato is terrific and the H really comes to life with a model 10 tone cabinet connected to it. Gary

I think you'll find a bit of wd-40 on the motor and bearings of the leslie will increase it's speed up. Very old and not opened never had a bit of tlc bearings need lubrication no matter what type of leslie it is that spins.
@Vercus100
8 жыл бұрын
WD-40 is not a lubricant. It's a Water Displacer (First two letters) designed to free rusty bolts, etc. Long term, it actually dissipates and provides no lubrication whatsoever. A more effective approach would be a little isopropyl alcohol to break up and remove the old lubricant, followed by 3-in-1 oil. That will provide long lasting, effective lubrication for the bearing.
@darreniii5079

if we want to be technical i would use inox as it disperses the excess gunk and lubricates 3 in 1 oil is a bit like using canola oil.

Anything that doesn't sound like Hammond drawbars are "gimmicky" to Hammond enthusiasts :-) But that's what Hammonds are good at - drawbar sounds and that's it. The more orchestral-like sounds have always been kind of dull sounding on a Hammond. I think that's why they lost to Lowrey, Yamaha, Elka and others that made organs with better presets. When I bought my big Technics organ in a music store there was a Hammond next to it and the price was the equivalent of US$ 300 for the Technics and 1400 for the Hammond. After having played both of them I had to ask the store owner if the price tags had been switched because I thought the Technics was much better than the Hammond. He said they were correct so I went home with the Technics.
