My parents bought one of these in black and I learned to drive in it at 15. My dad got a dui and lost his license so my mother gave me a set of keys and a gas card so I could run errands for her as she was tied down working at the funeral home we looed after. So I had the car for school and summer nights at the drive in movies.1972 -1974. Best time ever.

I sold Pontiacs beginning in 1969, the first year of this restyle. Motor Trend mag's Car of the Year. We could not keep the car in stock. It was red hot. People would order from the factory and wait 6-8 wks for delivery. This car started the trend toward the larger 2 dr cpe personal luxury car. Cars that followed it were the Cougar, Riviera, Continental, Eldorado, all becoming restyled. I guess it goes to show the trend setter that Pontiac truly was back in the day. It truly was the Division for all people.

My dad preferred Pontiac & the apple didn't fall far from the tree. I had a 71&73 plus a 73&75 trans am. I was a GM guy & the W30 Outlaws & Buick GS models were my favorite hot rods. My neighbor in Ohio was a great auto painter that worked for Pontiac, he brought home a new 68 Firebird w326 motor. He let my dad drive it & it was no slouch!

The 1971 - 1972 styling to me is sweeter than the gorgeous and desirable 1969 - 1970 GP. Ihave always wanted one of these beauties. The right one never found me. For a few years I had a 1971 Monte Carlo which was great, but a '71 GP would have been perfect.

I had a 71 model J w/ a 350 hp 400 ci. & a 73 w/ a 455 motor, maybe the 73 had more emissions but the 400 definitely ran quicker. Actually surprisingly fast car. I flipped the top of the air cleaner over & when I kicked it down it almost sounded super charged!
