I had 9 of 10 before checking the multiple choices. The exception was "You've Got a Friend," where my guess was Carole King before looking at the choices. Of course, James Taylor had the hit. I knew the Buoys from once doing a top ten list of songs where the music sounds happy but the lyrics aren't!

Exact same here - I was a teen listening to radio every day; The last one must've been obscure enough to throw people off. Some of those songs though, were more 'known' than 'popular' in '72, Janis and Morrison were deceased.

I wouldn't have been able to answer that one back in '72, either. I found a YT video and as far as I can tell I've never heard it before. It apparently reached #17 on the charts, but it may have been one of those songs that was popular in some areas and not played at all where I was. I didn't even recognize the name of the Buoys, so I got the 50/50 guess wrong because I did recognize the Daniel Powter name.

I'm 58, so all were easy for me. The last one was hard. I got my first tape recorder in 72'. I find 72' was one of the best years of music. One of the few years in music that we all knew the words to the songs. But for me, at least, the best decade for everything was the 70's. I love the 70's. Also early 80's.

Calif., so many open(outside) venues such as the Hollywood Bowl, Santa Barbara Bowl, Greek Theatre, there used to be one at Universal Studios(it was open) it's enclosed is now Nokia? We went there once never again they seat you as if your a sardine. LOL We went to others like the Olympic Stadium, The Forum, other places.to many to mention. We just enjoyed so many concerts🎶. Now it's SAD some of the bands, singers are no longer with us anymore. We have the memories the best times, how it used to be. I listened to a fair amount of Dr Demento (and saw him and Weird Al around '82), but I still don't recognize the song at all. Fish Heads, OTOH is recognizable in the first 1/2 second and for some weird reason I know it was by Barnes and Barnes. I can also thank Dr Demento for my introduction to "The Wizard of Speed and time".

C'mon now. The only one of the 10 that was even remotely obscure or difficult was the last one, and I still got it right. No way would anybody under the age of 50 fail this.

I’m 50 and I wouldn’t have even needed the visual of the multiple choices. I’ve always been obsessed with pop music/ culture though. Quite a few of these songs actually predated 1972.

I got 10 out of 10 on this. I collected music since 1960 and graduated high school in 1972 and listening to and collecting and recording lots of music then so I got all right 10 out of 19.

I'm 53, and I only missed the last one. It is the only song I don't know on the list. My first response to the "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" was The Band, even though the rendition by Joan Baez is the first one I heard. My dad bought the 45 rpm when it came out, and it moved me greatly.

Still own my 45 copy of "Timothy" (released in 1971, which I bought as a 14 back then), as well as quite a few others here.....and yes, unfortunately (Lol), got ''em all, cuz' they were the soundtrack of my teen years...

Same I hadn't heard of it either but I'm sure it was very controversial. I was just telling someone on here that says they have it on a 45 that I bet that's worth some money kinda of like the Beatles Yesterday and Today album where they had all the dolls that were cut up with blood and then they pulled them off the shelves and covered over the labels with another lable. If anyone has those there usually valuable to collectors. My mom has one of the covered ones. You can still see the original label some. Anyways I hope you have a great day too. 10 of 10. Timothy was written by Rupert Holmes of "Escape" the Pina` Colada song fame. It was about three boys trapped in a mine collapse and two survived horrible hunger by eating Timothy. It was banned because of its cannibalism reference.

The Bouys song Timothy was written Rupert Holmes who went on the write "Escape (The Piña Colada Song)". This song was banned on many radio stations because of it eluding to cannibalism. Very catchy 70s song. Check it out in a version that has lyrics.

@@cynthiaharrell2144 I didn't know he wrote it either until one day I happened to look at the 45 rpm record I had and saw the writing credit. I was surprised. I also noticed your name. It made me remember. "Cindy" Harrell was my favorite model. She was in the Ghostbuster's video by Ray Parker Jr plus a lot of other things. She was such a natural beauty. That's just some more information.
