Brings back memories . I worked at The Risk , the box between the Border box and Kyogle from the mid to late 70's

That would have been a great place to work. Plenty of stories i am sure. In July i will be posting some footage of The Risk station and interlocking from 1994.

ALCO heaven was the nickname of the North Coast line until around the mid 1990s. Thank you for posting this memento of years past.

Thanks for taking the time to upload this wonderful historic railway footage. I will be travelling along "Lions Road" in a few days, on my Honda CBX500 adventure motorcycle and looking very much forward to seeing what I can of the Border Loop. 👍

Sean from what i understand the landscape has changed; tree's have grown, vegetation further prominent. This is a beautiful part of the world. I am sure you will enjoy Lions Road and the Border Loop.

The 442 class would have been nearly new back then, sounded great in eight notch with the Brisbane Ltd Express. Beautiful scenery up that way too. Classic ALCO action in the good old days of the "Mixed Goods" trains, now it's XPT's and NR's on container trains...great video, thank you.

one of the great rail fans vantage points on the north. How the trees have grown. A great collection of period freight and passenger trains.

AMAZING footage! Thanks so much... brings back memories. I was fortunate enough to be in the cab of 3642 over borderloop in 1989. Great memories as an 9 year old kid!

oh the memories! My father was a Mechanic based at sth Grafron workshops and spent a lot of time scooting up and down the loop repairing track workers equipment .. theres a 75% chance he was on the gangers express.

28:54 I never knew that the Public Transport Commission undertook deviation works on the North Coast line so early in the 1970s during the Askin New South Wales government period. So the criticism that they received in regard to track maintenance after the Granville derailment seems unwarranted. Also, I doubt that they got private contractors involved like what they did with the Keating government's 'One Nation' infrastructure package bringing the John Holland firm into it and possibly a few others during 1992-95. Great that you ended the video with the Gloucester area footage of the goods train crossing the Avon River bridge. The dairy industry expanded north of Kyogle largely due to the extension of the North Coast Railway to Brisbane and you can see the cream cans on a small platform very early in this video that illustrates the agricultural activity in this area. It may not be as remote as the area between Grafton and Casino where funny enough the first section of the main North Coast line opened in 1905 but the Border Loop area is still a very obscure location in the New South Wales North Coast region despite it's proximity to the Queensland capital Brisbane.

An amazing and very unique piece of railway construction and engineering.....as is much of this main line that traverses through the McPherson Rangers / NSW & QLD border region. Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful film footage on your You Tube page.

The gleaming cars are not long off the production line and a stark contrast to the Indian Red and Buff line Rub cars.
