It's always a pleasure starting the day hearing you through a vintage Marshall!

It's so nice to see someone not tearing apart the previous amp tech's work. Too many people seem to have a need to rag on the last person who worked on an amp... whether it's justified or not. Kudos.

Well, the previous tech did a satisfactory job. They also did some reversible mods, and left all the parts. If someone does crap work with messy solder joints, bad connections, and other things that could damage the amplifier and possibly even harm someone, and another tech is fixing it in a video, it needs to be addressed.

@@castleanthrax1833 I'm not sure how else to read the meaning of your complaint that "too many people have a need to rag on the last person who worked on an amp... whether it's justified or not". Especially the "justified or not" portion. That seems to me that you'd prefer not hear anything negative on a previous techs work, even if it IS justified.

I am on my 3rd since 1971. The sound differences on all have been minor. The new one is slightly tighter. Not a bad thing once the band kicks in. I have zero complaints. I got my first via Ron Wood who set up the deal and I just had to bring cash and pick it up. It had been only used on a single recording session so in reality it was brand new. I paid about $350.00 USD., LOL.

Hey, so what's the deal with the varying opinions on the low voltage versions? Some seem to like them, others including Dave F. say they prefer the higher voltage ones. I have one, originally a bass amp, someone convert to lead spec. There is a gold sticker on the back with black lettering. Partly ripped off, says "EAD". I heard the American distributor may have done the conversion. Not sure. The original white label sticker with the signatures say Bass. Had mine sent to metroamp years ago, he checked it out. I removed the bright cap, converted from 6550 to EL34s. Might be a couple of other tweaks as it has one huge sozo cap on the board, but the rest are original mustards. Sounds great.

I had a 1977 one. I bought it after my 1978 2x12 combo got stolen. I have never seen another combo like it. JMP 50W with black backs.

Just a thought... that 150k on the driver of the CF might be someones attemp to goose the voltage? Don't laugh some people do this. ( A split load might be better for this possible mod.) Didn't the location and some what ,spot on, 149k resistor seem odd(er)? Considering the other things that had been changed or added✌🖖
@HeadfirstAmps

It was a 100k resistor that had drifted to 150k over time, not a mod.

Hey Jason I have a 68 spec Marshall super lead build that I added the lee Jackson tube buffered effects loop to......he gets the voltage from the V2 node that supplies the effects loop tube....it has the 100k across pins 1 and 6 of the effects tube as well......I added an 8.2k resistor and another 32u filter node for the effects loop tube.....do you think this was a good idea?

365v on the plates?? Did I hear that correctly? I had a 2204 from 78’ that had 390v at the plates. Was pretty good but a bit mushy. This one sounds better with lower plate voltage. Wonder if it has to do with being non master vol Love your vids

Well if he did the work on the amp could he or someone else comment on the V2a plate resistor value, I have my suspicions and made an earlier comment. NOBD sorry Jason. I love this amp after your service. just curious about this point of parts change.

Do you have any opinions on the 1987x reissues? Kind of been thinking of going with one since one of my favorite players made good use of a 1987 back in the 80's
@HeadfirstAmps

They can be great. Stock maybe mot the best 1987 spec ever, but two or three component changes and they are classic.
