Looks great!! I like how you never showed the valve spring R&R oh and you forgot the choke knob linkage rod. Tip: put a bolt back in the thread boss on the starter when you take it off, saves on the eye, too bad one was broke. Looks awesome!!👍

When you put the crankcase cover on, did you leave the gasket off? I did see you adjust the points and give it a spin test to see if it’s sparking? I didn’t see you put a gasket on the carb? You should of plugged the hole in the point cover. And siliconed the wire, to prevent moisture from getting in. Was this your first ever rebuild?

Nicely done, thank you. I have one question about the valves. Why do you grease them up and then spin them in their posts ?
@AJRestoration
2 жыл бұрын
Its engine oil, its so the valves have good lubrication
@jkurl15
2 жыл бұрын
The spinning with the compound is called lapping. The compound is gritty and help get any burrs off the valve and valve seat so they mate and seal when the valve is down.

Does anyone know that model of this carburetor? The cheap replacements I've seen that fit this style of engine don't have the same layout or crankcase return port. I can rebuild a carb with the right kit, but I also need the tank screws as they are all stripped and can't be tightened properly. It was like that before we bought it a few decades ago ;).

@@AJRestoration Hi and thanks for the response! I looked again; if you compare 28:57 to 29:15 I figured out what the difference is... it looks like the bell housing is rotated 90 degrees clockwise from the "before" to the "after." It seems as though it was designed so it would work either way so that the oil drain for the gearbox could be oriented left or right. Love this series and all your restorations!

Don't mean to be a nitpicker but, one of those balls on the starter gear jumped slots and you doubled up balls in one slot, and I noticed you didn't put a tank - carb gasket in, and also an intake manifold gasket on. That's going to cause an air and fuel leak. That may be why it wouldn't start for you. Hope you got that straightened out.

This was a cleaning of parts and reassembly . I didnt see a gasket used for the cover, or, new bearing's, piston and rings, new crank seals, a light honing of the cylinder for good seal of rings, not a lot of new parts, but, a major cosmetic restoration . Now, if you did other things such as installing new parts or you performed other procedures you didnt show in the video, I apologize in advance. 😊 Its the perfectionist in me. Great video !
