I have a Pantera and it starts all the time and runs cool. That's because I have a better radiator and a Holley Carb that's set right. A stock Pantera is a rare thing because out of the factory you needed to do 2 things: Get an Aluminum lay-down radiator and better brakes. After that they were a solid reliable car that can pretty much annihilate most of the cars of it's day.

My first exposure to the Pantera was in a magazine article and that car had the flares and giant wing. The article compared its looks to the Lamborghini Countach. The cars do look good sans all the aero but you can't knock it all decked out. That 351 Cleveland doesn't hurt either. Beautiful sports car!

People do that same shit to my ç MR2 Turbo, and it looks terrible. The stock look is perfect and needs no bodykit - nor does it require a spoiler delete. Leave it the fuck alone.

Nice car. Adam Carolla doesn't have a clue about Panteras, though. Yes, some have tasteless mods, but the vast majority update the car to modern standards. Plus - the performance is extreme. No mention of the performance by Adam C means he doesn't have a clue about Panteras. For a point of reference, a stock Pantera with no upgrades is about the same performance as a C5 Z06. That's a pretty fair comparison. Imagine what they are like with an average performance rebuild on the 351C. And if you do aluminum heads, decent cam, big brakes, etc., they will smoke almost anything on the road. Stock Panteras could hit 160mph.

beeroosterm I didn't realize the C5 Z06 did a mid-12 1/4. That's faster than I expected. Stock Panteras were in the low 14's @ 100mph. Don't forget, that was with crappy 70's technology tires. If you use modern radial tires, a stock Pantera still won't catch a Z06, but it would be a race. I have driven a C5 Z51, I've ridden in a C5 Z06 (driven hard), and I used a mostly stock Pantera as a daily driver for 8 years. I still have it, but it isn't mostly stock anymore. Of course there are differences, like fuel injection, but I still maintain that the two perform very similar. I never said the Pantera was faster. I said they were "about the same". 160mph vs. 170mph, fantastic handling, fantastic brakes, Z06 accelerates faster, but not by much, same size, same weight, similar HP, same visibility, Pantera is actually quieter at cruise speeds and louder on acceleration.

beeroosterm Perhaps, and I think you are doing the same. Plus, I think you are comparing based on numbers which are inaccurate and cannot possibly describe what it is like to drive these cars. Modern numbers for the Z06 are probably very accurate, but ratings from 40 years ago were not. Hot Rod did a comparison of Ford vs. Chevy engines a few years ago. They used stock cams, intakes, heads, etc. A stock 351C (non-Boss) made 365HP - not 310HP, plus don't forget that Panteras had a 4.22:1 final drive with a 5 speed. I believe it was Motor Trend that compared a Pantera with a 454 Corvette at the Ontario Motor Speedway in 1973. Zora Arkus-Duntov plus a team of mechanics were there with 3 Corvettes. Not only was the Pantera not a smoking wreck, but it beat all but a race prepped Corvette, driven by Zora himself. I have the article somewhere, but I can't find it online. The brakes were 4 wheel discs with Girling calipers, which were used on high end cars such as the 427 Cobra, and I think the GT40. Mine with stock brakes would out brake my wife's Porsche. The suspension was designed using then-current race car ideas. Most people that track their car make very minor changes to the suspension. They change the brakes to more modern parts, switch to sticky tires, adjust the alignment, make sure everything is new, and maybe change the sway bars, but that's it. These are cars that are hitting 190mph on NASCAR style tracks. Granted, they are race cars, but the suspension is almost unchanged from stock. BTW, I know there were many issues with the stock Panteras. It was terribly under developed, as Ford wanted to beat Chrysler to the market. But I was also very surprised at the performance for a car now 40 years old. It hits 130mph in no time, and it wants to keep pulling. I have outrun C5 non-Z06 Corvettes in my stock Pantera.

Thats the way a lot of nice looking vintage cars are/were. Old Lamborghinis, Ferraris and British cars share many of the "better to look at than to daily drive" characteristics.

I was 16 the 1st time I saw a Pantera, I flipped a b*tch and chased it down thinking it was a Jalpa. Ever since then, and being schooled on what it was by the owner, I have had a deep admiration for the car.

I LOVE Pantera's but gotta clear up a bit of crap stated by the owner...they were never even close to state of the art/M12C contenders. The o/heat issues have been LONG solved so I don't know this dudes issue (it's called an accelerator pump, use it re. the no start) AND the rubber bumpers look FAR better than the little chrome eyebrows (personal opinion)...and who is that kid with Adam? Never seen a compact spare before? Holy crap.

Mine does not overheat, he needs to put a smaller pulley on the pump, or just run a Flowcooler pump.
