My Dad still has his '73 with 1,700 miles. The paint is the same combination as the '74.

I was luck enough to have a 1973. Had to sell it but I know where it's at. Just bought a new z900rs 45 years later. Wow great machine but the Old one has better looks. O by the way beautiful bike. The motor needs to be black to look 73.

Don’t think the first model Z1’s came out with that paint job & a silver motor, must be a Z1A or a Z1B motor, That paintwork I think only came out with factory painted black motor.

He does say it’s a 74 though.

@@deanhackett349 Yea mate that’s true I should learn to read properly , the Jaffa paint job definitely does go with the black motor , so who ever at Kawasaki came up with the designs for the first 3 model paint jobs definitely didn’t come up with the bland , cheap jobs on the 76 Z900 & Z1000 .

Yes - that engine is too noisy - it sounds like a metal forming factory. Could be cam chain and also maybe clutch bearings.

some 74 s where left over 73 s there are numbers in different place's on the bike such as front rotor inside the throttle, dont know why they left paint off cylinder head's that's how mine was before custom paint took hold. but i still have it

This bike looks like it just rolled out of the factory, shame it didn't have stock mirrors, and there appeared to be no center stand. The engine also sounded a bit noisy, but probably just needed a good engine service. This is my "Favorite bike" of all time, especially in metallic green.
