Dude..that's a beautiful restoration of the CR-125! Congratulations! I remember seeing an ad in Motocross Action of a full-blown '75 FMF CR-125 and it was painted a deep maroon color. You could order it from FMF for $1450.00(!), if my memory is correct. We grew up in the most exciting years of Moto-cross evolution! My dream bike was a '75 Bultaco Pursang. Side Note: Still in shock just hearing/reading about Marty and Nancy Smith. RIP to both.

In depth information about this restoration: This 1975 Honda CR125 Elsinore vintage motocross bike is like most of my motorcycle projects that arrived in several boxes containing numerous worn pieces and broken parts. The bike had obviously been ridden at it's maximum and definitely had fallen upon some serious "Hard Luck". Decades ago, I'm sure the young owner spent many of his first paychecks buying every FMF (Flying Machine Factory) part that he could find out of his favorite Dirt Bike magazine to transform his machine. My first step in the restoration process was fixing the thrashed frame. I had to replace the rear frame loop and the seat support bracket from a junk yard donor frame. The motor mounts were re-welded and the foot peg brackets were repaired to level out the sagging pegs. The engine required a new crankshaft and bearings and seals. Inside the transmission, second and third gears were significantly worn and were replaced along with the bent shift shaft and the clutch basket. The cylinder was bored .75 over-sized with NOS (new old stock) Honda piston & rings and the EMLER FMF Porcupine cylinder head finished off the whole motor restoration. The front suspension features the FMF Air-Oil Suspension Fork Conversion caps. These caps allowed you to set-up the bike with air pressure and no forks springs if you were brave enough. I kept the fork springs because I'm old and not so courageous. To protect the soft aluminum fork lowers, I also installed a pair of NOS Flying FInn fork protectores. The rear suspension used a set of rebuilt Boge/Mulholland shocks with finned aluminum coolers on the bottom of their shock bodies. I also spent some time working on the taller FMF GP or "Works" style seat that really helped pad your body from all the jumps and bumps. The stock seat pan had to be straightened and the brackets welded. The seat foam was repaired with layers of cotton batting, upholstery glue, and new seat cover. The original CR125 Elsinores, came stock with a rather weak 428 chain. This project has the FMF 520 chain conversion kit along with an NOS ProTec spring-loaded chain guide. The guide really helps to keep the chain in place and hopefully avoids a chain derailment that can often wreck the delicate engine cases. The engine is fed fuel with an FMF improved 32mm VM Mikuni carburetor and I modified a 1975 CR250 air box to feed the motor fresh air. The '75 CR250 air cleaner features a detachable filter cage, which I feel was an improvement over the stock CR125 fixed cage that would not allow you to easily clean out dirt from the carburetor intake boot. The exhaust gases were handled by a beautifully crafted FMF "Pro" low pipe. I did my best to maintain the original good looks of the 1975 Honda. The tank required several dents pulls and inside the tank it had to be cleaned and sealed to prevent rust. The stock red and black striped tank was a lot more challenging to paint than you would think. Getting the correct shade of Honda's Tahitian Red on the side panels and tank is a bit of a headache too. The final touches were an NOS tall DG bars, NOS Champion spark plug, and several vintage decals from FastGuyStuff.com. Please stay tuned, for more vintage bikes, I have a vast collection of completed restoration projects and photographs that I am going to post. I also hope to add more informative videos in the future if I can get over my camera shyness.

This year model of the 125 Elsinore was the very first real motocross bike that I ever saw in 1976 here in the Philippines same model when I first saw Marty Smith on a T.V. program called Thrill Seekers hosted by Chuck Connors. Since then, motocross became a part of me.

Not one single sound of the mighty Elsinore 🙄 .. instead, a bunch of fruity music. Throw a match on the bike for not honoring it properly.

Marty Smith was my moto hero, im 61 yrs.old and when I was kid he was the coolest! But wanted a 1975 Suzuki RM125 cause everybody had a Elsinore, but got a 1973 Husqvarna CR250 instead with forward mounted rear koni shocks. It had up-pipe and more power for off road woods riding. I was 14.My first race was on a Brand new 1979 Suzuki RM250, I had the first pair of Scott plastic boots and the Bell moto 1 helmet at the track, everyone thought i was a pro cherry picking the beginner class.. little did they know, it was by first race,, 1st moto i got the holeshot, cause I was scared to get tangled with the other riders, got two forth places for fourth overall, out of 32 riders. They only gave 1st-3rd place trophies, i was pissed! RIP Marty and his wife, god bless their kids.. Im jus say'n, Flodaddy.

I got to race a 1979 CR125 and still have to this day. I sure hope to restore it one day but just don't have the funds to do so. And besides, parts are that easy here unlike in your country. Congratulations on this project of yours, well done.

Thank you for the clip. My father bought me a '75 when I would have been 14 and I rode the hell out of it. Brings back great memories. Thx. I see the side case/chain guard was modified by Levi just like every 125 Elsinors we see.
