I had a 280S when I was in the military in Germany 30 years ago. Loved it. I had (an indicated) 125 mph out of on the autobahn.

The instruments in W115 and W123 made me in love with Mercedes Benz. Since I was a kid, I saw the quality and care to do a thing -right. So I need it very bad

if you are VERY familiar with snow driving with a well-balanced rear-wheel drive car, a W116 with a solid pair of all-seasons is just enough to tread a harsh NJ winter, which could be at most 6-12 inches at a time...though rarely. It snows just as much in Germany as it does anywhere else in the world and the Germans tested and still test to no ends in winter driving. With the W116, it's just lots of counter steering and right foot control :P But seriously, W116s are easy in snow.

G55Steyr, if it helps, my rev counter seems to run off of the harmonic balancer on my 280S. There appears to be a sensor that sits near the water pump that looks like it measures it that way. I'm not too sure about your W123...but it's worth a look.

this is the car of my childhood. my father drove this car thr whole 1980s. ever summer holiday we drove 2000km nonstop (only refuel), 2 adults and 3 kids with an fully packed trunk and a 1.6t trailer over the Alps (Brenner pass!, google it). this car never broke.

haha ok, but the w115 never had rev counter, and in eu you dont see rev counter on a w123 unless its a well equipped 230E. ;) then on the w124 only the fuel injected models had rev c. standard.

All W116 280 models came with a four-speed auto. U.S. specification cars came with second-gear start, making it seem like it's a three-speed unless the pedal was floored from a standstill while hitting the kickdown switch. It can start in first if the gear shifter is in L.

@@chinny4290 thank ! because my 116 it s look like 3 speeds ? i don't understand ! mercy alain from france !
@@chinny4290 It wasn't US spec with 2nd gear start. All Mercedes 4 speeds of that era were 2nd gear start. I owned the same car in South Africa, 79 280S, as well as the predecessor, 108 280S. They all start in 2nd unless you floor it and engage the kickdown switch under the pedal.
