I was the ball boy for this Test at Kings Park over 45 years ago, highlight of my life I remember that great try by Germishuys like it was yesterday.

That must have been amazing! Can we see you in this video? I assume you were on that side of the field where Gerrie scored?

@@antstry77 The camera angles were a bit narrow on this vid to see me, one shot had my head in it but I'm sure if there was the full match I could be seen quite often. Actually apparently I was caught on camera scratching my bum lol, I never heard the end of it. For the GG try, I was on the left side of the field and he was a little ahead of me and I was running down the sideline after him, screaming like a banshee 😆 .. Handing the ball to Grant Batty, Sid Going and got a hair ruffle from Paul Bayvel I was so chuffed as a 11 year old.

@@floating-in awesome stuff! Plus you got to see other greats like Jan Ellis, Morne, Gerald Bosch and Boland Coetzee close-up and in person. Very interesting stories, I just love it! Thank you so much for sharing! 🙂

Class game. The best match of an average series, partly due to the beautiful Kings Park conditions and surface. The All Blacks played well enough all round but a couple of moments of brilliance from the Bok backs did them in. As an NZer I still stop and replay that try from Germishuys 3-4 times whenever I happen upon this clip. The Bok backline used the hip swing pass you don't see that much any more in this world of pick 'n go trench rugby. Lastly I always thought Morne du Plessis was underrated, and I think he had a huge influence in both this series and the later one against Bill Beaumont's 1980 Lions

Remember this series well as a teenager. The two Bok tries in this match were brilliant. Gerrie Germishuys was a brilliantly instinctive runner who deserved more opportunities. His run around makeshift fullback Duncan Robertson and Beegee Williams was superb. And the Edrich Krantz try was the culmination of an amazing team effort where the ball was spun through many pairs of hands from one side of Kings Park to the other, with Krantz on hand to finish the Transvaal scrumhalf Paul Bayvel's blindside break. The ABs had their moments in this match, and were unlucky narrowly missing at least 2 tries (the Andy Leslie mishap was shown in the video; Sid Going also missed a try when he lost the ball over the goal line, allowing Bayvel to clear). Whereas the Boks took their opportunities and the match with them.

The springbok flyhalf, Gerald Bosch went into this test running a 103 degree temperature. He lasted until 8 minutes from the end. Amazing!

Surely Duncan Robertson should have been given a warm up game at fullback instead of being thrown into the 1st test against the Boks without any match play in that position. Even saying that the Boks deserved their win.

0.54 summed up the tour for the All Blacks. Leslie must score but the ball did a u turn around the post. Abs would have been hard to beat at 9-0 up

The good old days when the Sth African Refs would cheat their arses off. It was guaranteed NZ would never win a test series there until neutral Refs took over and the moment that happened, Sth Africa would be very lucky to win a game at home against NZ.

Prior to 1976, unbeatable British Lion have no problem thrashing the Sringboks 3-0 in the series. All Black like to blame the refs, food poisoning when they lost. Now they like to blame NZ head coach Forster for 8 games losing streak!! sad!!!
