1970s America, I was fortunate to participate in the lifestyle and the culture, it's another time, another age, might as well be another planet.

In 1977, my father had a 1977 New Yorker. Of all the cars he had, this was my favorite. It was a 2-door, exterior all white, the interior was white leather seats with a red dashboard, seat belts, & rug. I forgot how nice the dash looked at night. I miss that car.

Ah memories. A friend had one like this in college. I can remember being out on back roads and he'd punch it, and we'd watch the fuel gauge needle slowly fall LOL!

It’s sad that the American classic boulevard riding cars with pillow top style seats are going the way with the dodo. Now everyone wants a luxury car that can go 0-60 in 2 seconds. All while being able to make phone calls sip on a coffee And charge a ton of smart phones and still get 40 mpg. It’s ashamed, gone is the days of the V-8’s and sofa like ride. I myself bought a 91’ Chrysler New Yorker. The last of that breed as a daily driver.

After 73 all cars had to be smogged which robbed you of power and added a whole new set of problems under the hood. That's why you would see a lot of these cars broken down on the side of the freeway back in the 70s. If you have one today you'd be better off swapping a modern engine under the hoot. An SRT engine would work well with this car. If you have an old Lincoln than drop in a Coyote.

@@andrejakobsson5790 It means that the manufacturer hooked pumps and recirculating exhaust devices to the engine as well as catalytic converters (this was mandatory starting in 1975) as well as lowering compression rates so the vehicle polluted less, but at the expense of running worse and lowering gas milleage.

Yeah it’s a shame people want cars to be fun, practical, useful, and efficient. I hate how that gets in the way of driving a boat with the engine the size of the Empire State but the power of a ladybug

I had a 77 New Yorker hardtop, bought in the 90s as a daily driver, that I loved. White outside, brown pillowy leather inside, and other than some Lean Burn issues, quite reliable. Rust showed up (Ohio) and I traded it in on a new 1998 Intrepid.

Folks complain about exhaust note ... should hear my 57 300 Chrysler . 3 inch factory pipes factory mufflers at 90 mph sweet rumble And my 66 Imperial crown coupe has factory mufflers duals only throaty at 60 + .. my 70 and 76 Imperial same you can't tame a 440 High restriction in exhaust just to have quiet will cause pinging .. duals no cats free flow with mid range mufflers good to keep car cool And 93 octane fuel car won't ping .. GM Cadillac buick worst to ping on single exhaust .. let them breathe

My grandparents bought a burgundy colored New Yorker Brougham, brand new in 1977. It was a lovely car, with the softest leather interior I have ever known. It's comfort was unique, no matter if you were in the front seat or back. I have always been partial to GM products, but the Chrysler New Yorker was every bit as good if not better than Cadillac by GM , or the Lincoln Continental by Ford. My grandfather died about a year after buying it,and my grandmother kept it until 1988. She traded it off for a new Chevy sedan, but that old Chrysler still had the new car smell after 11 years. I was sad to see it go.
