I usually turn the prop shaft by hand when sliding the drive shaft up and in. Lines the splines up everytime! Great vid!

You turned the impeller the wrong way. Yes, clockwise is correct, that’s the way the driveshaft turns, BUT, you did it with the impeller/housing upside down. You have to realize/visualize that the entire housing sits the other side up. If you put the impeller in the way you did, it’s turning counterclockwise once you flip the assembly over. I’ve lost track of how many videos make this error.

My experience is that if you turn the lower upside down then the drive shaft will go in easily. GREAT Video!!

Nice to see these things. But, out of interest, why did you not put a small plug in the driveshaft hole before cleaning?

Great video, At the end of the video, you were having a hard time to make the shaft go in. What were you moving to make the shaft go in. Also, why you retapping the screw holes?

Guy Boyajian he turned the flywheel so that the splines were more lined up! Also he retaps the holes for smooth instillation and better for future disassembly! Sub to my channel is you like it!!

I have a Johnson 4 hp the water pump looks exactly the same . How I get one like that ? What’s the part #?
Your videos are great! Would you have time to answer a question? I have a 4hp Johnson Seahorse. Replaced the water pump and both coils. Now when I pull the starter the throttle lever moves. Any idea why?
@edwardhill6945

Your coils are not set in place correctly. They are rubbing on the flywheel, which results in turning the timing plate, which moves the throttle. Use the straight edge of a box cutter knife, line the two edges of the coil perfectly with the two edge of each boss

Hello. I have a early 80's Johnson 4hp Deluxe, with FNR. Do you have any idea how to separate the lower gear housing from the rest of it to replace the impeller? I can only get it about 1/2" apart and that's it. Had an older Johnson 6HP and there was a little coupler on the shifter rod that unscrewed and it came apart, but this doesn't have that coupler. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks
