Hi Tim I have a question I thought you used a corn head to do sunflower seeds

You lose a lot of seeds with a corn head. A “panheader” is used for sunflowers looks like a corn head. A lot of people use a bean head to save expenses

Thankyou! I don't think it's something I'd want to grow but I'll definitely come pick it for people 😆. I really love my old m2 bought paid fast and does everything I need out to do! Thanks for watching and commenting!!

I don't know anything about sunflower harvest but I would try cutting lower and raise the reel up some.

I played and played with it, tried everything you could imagine 😆 but the way I was doing it was the only way it would do a halfway good job.

Hey there Tim, for a second I thought you were going to retire the ol Glen M2, then I was thinking didn't you just get an IH head recently? I'm sure a new Gleaner combine cost probably around $250,000 or better, in sure the M2 been a good combine back in the day, I left a comment from your last video too, thank for sharing this video Tim 🇺🇸🚜🌽🌽🌽 it was just 2 weeks ago that marks the 22 years of the 9-11 attack, can you remember that horrible day in 2001?

I think we all remember what we were doing that terrible day......except for Biden 🤦♂️🤷♂️😆 O no old Glenn isn't going anywhere anytime soon, even if the engine blows ill have another one in it in a couple days lol. It's been bought and paid for, for so long at this point I owe it money 😆 🤣 😂 thanks for watching and commenting Matt!

The Gleaner with that header reminds me of a giant crab getting ready to fight. Good to see Bob again. Great video as always.

Pretty neat! I've seen a few fields of sunflowers in northern Indiana but not any around here. A friend of mine wanted to try a field a few years ago but he said he would have to truck them all the way to South Bend to sell them and he decided against it. At least you didn't have to worry about picking up rocks with the head! Hope the rest of the conversion goes well, glad to see you can still use your old head if you get in a bind though. Thanks for the video Tim!

Yes sir that's why I didn't want to take the variable speed stuff off my gleaner head, just in case my case header gives me a case of bad judgment 😆 🤣 😂. Looking at the price for sunflowers is awfully tempting to grow some. If one void find a reliable market they claim to be the most profitable crop you can grow 🤷♂️. Thanks for always being here Evan.

In Canada we always put sunflower pans on for sunflowers on the straight cut header , and a drum to push in the heads , some use an all crop header , but our gleaners always had the pans and drum on works great

Man yeah, nothing like a new adventure!!! Boy the coal rolling out of ole Glenn was epic!! Good to see Bob again!!! Looks like it went fairly well except for the wire issues, I bet they do play heck on anything not securely held down, with those stalks!! Pretty cool ti see, always wondered about that!! My apologies for being late, watched it the other day, while riding to see the latest acquisition possibky 😉 Thank you Tim for bringing us along!! Close to harvest? Cant wait!! Oh gleaner head did what it could!! 😉😉🇺🇸🇺🇸👍👍😁😁🌽🌽🌱🌱

Thankyou Nelson, those stalks were a nightmare for old Glenn. Definitely need some sort of deflectors to keep them away from the clutch wires, I ended up shorting one out and had to take the whole variable speed apart to fix it 🤦♂️ nothing I haven't done before but still a pain. I definitely learned some things though, next time I think I'll use the corn header for starters 😆. We keep getting rain been about 8 inches the past 2 and half weeks, it should dry up by Friday or so and I hope to get started. I've got just a couple things to wrap up on the case conversation, my parts will be here today and I hope to have it on the combine working this evening. I'll keep ya posted lol.

@@TimothyFluegel Dang, I know you have been in that variable speed alot, yes I bet that was a nightmare for sure on those wires!! Still though, money talks on custom work 😁 Man isn't that always the case farmers beg for rain to grow, then come harvest time it won't stop to get in the fields 😳 Heck yeah, I can't wait to see that!! I actually did some selling and swapping on heads this week too!! If I ever find a descent donor I may do that conversion to mine too!! Like I need to worry about it with so few acres🤣🤣 Man yeah look fwd to those updates 😉😉😉🇺🇸🇺🇸👍👍🌱🌱🌱🌱

Looked like that header was beating the heads on to the ground for the most part. I hope the yield was enough to cover the cost though.

The head were all leaning to the east, I found out quickly to just make a dry pass and pick headed west then it did pretty good. But he got about 140 bushel from 2 acres. He claimed I got more out of the field than the new jd combine did last year, said he had a better stand last year too, so that's saying something about the old gleaner 😆. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Nice video. I'm thinking of trying some sunflowers. The local mill is looking for them . I heard a All Crop header works pretty good for sunflowers. I just finished up putting a pickup header on my model K for buckwheat and will send some pictures of it in action

Definitely do that. I've been tossing around the idea of doing some small grains myself. Thera alot of money in sunflowers, if I had a reliable market I would plant some myself.

Best thing for sun flowers is a row crop bean head. But since you don't have one you do what you can with what you have. Run your reel speed a little faster to bat the heads in before they can fall back out. The heads are heavy so you bat them in like a ball of sorts. You will get the hang of it...
@TimothyFluegel

I had it going as fast as it could 😆 that makes sense about batting them in like balls. Thanks for the info.
