Jacques Lemaire has got to be one of the most underrated NHL Hockey Players of all time. He was absolutely awesome & I don't think that great Montreal Canadien Team would've been as spectacular without him. With the exception of Wayne Gretzky & Mike Bossy and a few others nobody could shoot the hockey puck better than Jacques Lemaire.

Notice who passed the puck in overtime to Lemaire----it was LaFleur. This shows that LeFleur could pass as well as score. And Lemaire was probably the most under-rated center in the NHL during his career.

The 1976-77 Montreal Canadiens . . . the greatest NHL team of all time. (60-8-12) 132 points is a record that still stands today. Only 8 losses in an 80 game schedule is another record that will likely not be broken. That Stanley Cup title in 1977 was the second in a four-year run from '75-'76 to '78-'79. What a team!
@russelljdj

I have to agree. The 76-79 years they were awesome. If only the Bruins had a health Bobby Orr. If is just a fantasy. This was great hockey back then. Hockey pales in comparison to this now. Imagine if they had today's equipment then.

Absolutely right. I remember as a kid I did some kind of project or debate about this team being the greatest of all time. When I examined the season log I noticed a couple of interesting things. First, of the 8 losses 5 of them were the second night of back to back games. 2 others were 1 goal games, including a 1-0 shut out in Toronto lol. And 3 of the losses were to the Bruins (only 1 was on the second night of back to back as mentioned above). Not that there's any particular point to any of that but they must have had a losing record on the 2nd night of back to back games and that is kind of interesting.

forwards were fairly even , Montreal gets the nod on the fourth line, defense Montreal hands down, Goalies ill give the nod to the Islanders Smith and Resch over Dryden and Lararque reason being Resch was a better backup than Bunny . Potvin is the only islander defense man who could match up against Savard ,Lapointe, Robinson . both teams third lines were just as good as most teams first or second lines , Islanders had the best pure goal scorer in history Bossy, both teams match up very good . the difference Montreal's defense was better

I read somewhere (I think it was from Scotty Bowman's book) that Montreal Canadiens were hard to motivate cause they were too powerful for other teams. Lots of games they were leaving the other teams take the lead, to come back in the game, for the Challenge! It is said, but not proven of course, that if the 12 draws were to go in overtime like now, most likely they would be 12 wins, imagine 144 possible points! Anyway, those were da days!! :-)

In the 70's the top 12 teams made the playoffs regardless of their conference and division. The teams were seeded 1 to 12, with the bottom 8 teams playing a preliminary best of 3 round. The top 4 seeded teams took on the winners of that preliminary round in the quarter finals.
