I've met Patsy 3 years back. Took a training session from him beeing without really beeing ready for it. He didn't even understand how somebody could be that bad at the game and still want to play snooker, it seemed to me. :-D Anyway, I remember him saying towards the end "Now, let's finish in some style!" (I didn't ^^). I guess that's what he was unhappy about in this last frame, not to have ended it with a century break but rather falling over the line. Cool guy. And great upload, I am so happy I found this! Thanks

A wonderful piece of snooker nostalgia and unique to see the great Joe Davis speaking at the end. Even at the age of 76, one can sense the impact he still had upon the game. Of course, Blackpool Tower Circus staged the World Finals in the 50's.

I have a set of super crystallate balls and they behave so differently from today's balls. The set I use is the Aramith +3 and the old balls are noticeably heavier. They don't take spin like today's balls. Nice sound to them when you strike, it's a bit richer than their modern counterparts. You definitely have to work harder to control the cue ball with the old balls.

Those balls were so heavy! You can hear it within the first few minutes of the video. Ironically, the sponsor of the tournament was the manufacturer of the balls. Hats off the the players back then. Balls like cannonballs and the cloth heavier than army canvases! To have smaller pockets would have demoralised even the best!

Patsy Fagan, one of the greats. Brilliant as an amateur, esp in money matches!

Shame what happened to Patsy. Great player to watch and he was destined for greater success. Doug was a great player too and should've been World Champion. Davis put a stop to all of them from that era.

It does look that way but probably wasn’t as the yellow is slightly in front of the brown.

Growing up watching snooker in this era this reminds me of how much I always disliked Ted Lowe's commentary with his constant stating of the obvious and banal. However, I'd still choose him over the worst commentary team ever which is the execrable combination of Virgo and Thorne who have completely abandoned commentary in favour of endless speculation.

I am 51 years old and a snooker fan since the early 1970's. One thing that hadn't been invented yet and that the players and fans didn't have to put up with back then was the awful dreaded mobile phone ringing during matches.

The 1970s-80s tables are very slow and todays tv tables are way to fast. So maybe the 1990s tables are the best for all players.

Was n't Patsy Fagan he involved in a car crash in 1980?, so had probems after that, affected him more mentally than physically. But he was a classy player, once lent his cue to ray reardon after ray's tip fell off in the 1985 WC
