That’s absolutely gorgeous! Someone had to have had that parked and covered in a garage somewhere because it’s in too great of shape to have been driven regularly. What a cherry!!🍒

I remember those, built on the T-bird chassis of that same year, BOTH were very NICE, comfortable, had a good ride (Fomoco cars had longer coils), and were sexy looking vehicles, you're fortunate if you can find one well maintained, it's STILL a nice car, and the 351 CID Cleveland was optional, now you've got an Indy car! 👍

In 1978 it was a 351M motor.

@jeffrobodine8579 YES, I can remember that's what they were equipped with, and I think Cleveland was still optional.

@@ricardoflot2787 The 302 was standard, the 351W, 351M and 400(Cleveland) were optional for the platform in that year.

Beautiful classic car. I had a '77 when I was 21 and it's my 2nd favorite car in all cars I've owned. If you were closer, I'd buy it, absolutely.

That car is absolutely mint. What is surprising is that for an XR7 trim level that vehicle has very very few options. No power windows, no power locks, base hubcaps(very rare for a XR7 as most had the optional alloyed wheels) and no optional guage package. This vehicle had to be a retail/special order car from a customer as no dealership would have opted for a car built this way for it's inventory.

This was the twin of the Thunderbird. The real problem was the build quality. The doors would sag after a couple of years. Cornered like a ferry boat.

Beautiful, but in the great book on the American cars of the 70s that I have in my home here in Italy the XR7 looks most modern...

My dad bought one of those new. The problem with those cars is the transmission. The E4OD transmission was too weak for the 351 engine.

Which is easily fixable with a new performance clutchpack. Nobody's going to be driving this car like a Corvette anyway lol

This wouldn't have an E4OD transmission in 1978. It likely had an FMX, a C4 or a C6 depending on how it was optioned. The E4OD was a four speed electronic overdrive and that wasn't used in this generation Cougar.

@@googleusergp You are correct. My dads XR7 was a 1979 with an AOD transmission, and not the E4OD transmission.

@@christophersanders5007 Still not correct. No AOD in 1979, it was introduced for the 1980 model year. A 1979 Cougar wouldn't have had it either.

This is a Lorain, OH built 1978 model with the VIN for the win: 8 for 1978 model year, H for Lorain, OH assembly, 93 for Cougar XR-7, S for 400 CID V8 with two barrel and the rest is the production sequence. The 400 V8 was a heap of crap saddled by poor ignition and carburetion, but the 351 and 302 of this era weren't much better. The Lorain, OH plant operated from 1958 to 2005. Exterior paint is likely code 5Q Dark Brown.
