I'd rather have one of these land yachts than any of today's SUVs.

Did everyone NOTICE the correct way to steer the car while 'cruising'? You hand is at the 12 o'clock position. My father did that all the time. It is a relaxing way to steer your big domestic vehicle in those days. 😉

My parents had a 1979 LTC ... I can't see much if any change in body style between it and your '78. I took my driver's lics. test in this boat and would borrow it all the time until I was able to get my first car. You're right about those being status-symbol cars back then. I'd get mixed reactions from friends ... ranging from "y'all must be rich" (no) to "driving my parent's pimpmobile." Beautiful car!

To be honest, MOST of these cars sit for years and the freon eventually leaks out. I am talking like 15-20 years. We are forced to convert because we can't get R12. However, I have found the systems still work incredibly well with the R134

with a carb. you push it to the floor and release slowly to set the automatic choke when the engine is cold. when the engine is warm/hot... it all depends most of the time you do nothing, sometimes you mash it once or 3 times then start.
