I own one exactly like this! Mines also a Martinique Blue 1978 with a W72 400 4 speed and 74,000 original miles on it.

That one doesn't appear to be the Pontiac TA66

I had one that I ordered new, Solar Gold, Tan custom velour interior, no T-tops WS6 4 speed. I'm pretty sure all TA 6.6 engines had chrome valve covers, and the engine code should be W72, another easy way to tell is look under the car, the TA 6.6 cars had a 2 muffler system, the other engines all had a single all the way back with a cross-flow muffler directing flow to both sides. I opened the scoop, ran pipes back to the mufflers on both sides for a true dual exhaust and put on the rear disc brakes that the "79 WS6 had. That car would eat corvettes for lunch, and even today it's still one of the best looking cars out there. I believe they did make a few TA 6.6's with automatics, but I don't think this is on of them, very nice car though, but it really does annoy me when somebody misrepresents a car as something it's not. A smart buyer will always run the VIN, that will tell you all you need to know.

@thomaskirk9341 The Last year for automatic TA 6.6 was in 78. And yes they had chrome valve covers. They had a TA 6.6 in 77 but it had a transversal Muffler. My brother and I had a brand new blue 4-speed TA 6.6. We also order 4 brand new 1979 4-speed's but they ran out engines so they sent one of them 403 Olds automatic. It was good-looking to that one was red with silver WS6 Wheels. And that 79 Olds had the same dual resonator exhaust system has the 4-speeds. And yes we never got out ran in those 4sp's by an L-82 Vette. It wasn't ugly race but probably 3-4 Car length. The 403 Olds would not outrun a healthy L-82. But it had no problems with Z-28's though. We've had a shitload of Old TAs too. My first car in high school in 1976 was a 71 Trans Am 455 HO. We had a 70 Ram Air lll and a 73SD and a 74 SD. I still have the 74 I've had it since 1984. I guess I'm forgetting one I bought a brand new 1984 15th Anniversary 5-speed 3.73 L-69. Might as well mention I had a 79 red L82 4-speed 3.73 Corvette as soon as I found out that new 80 model Corvette body was going to have a limited number of L-82 I went bought a black one. My brother loved it so much he went bought a silver one. Our friend went bought a red one all 80 L-82's. The 1980 Corvette Not only was the best-looking body and 265 lbs lighter and they increase the hp that year. And Pontiac was cooking the books the TA 6.6 cars had 50 more hp than what they were rated.

That ' 78 was the first new car I ever ordered from scratch, I was still in high school and used my money from my lawn mowing business. I had tried out an L82 4 speed Vette, but wasn't that impressed, plus I just thought the WS6 looked more ready to rock. I've had a lot of cars over the years, both foreign and domestic, many different makes, and fortunately a very good paying job has given me the opportunity buy them, and my wife has always been OK with the car habit. That being said, I don't have a huge warehouse like Jay Leno to store them all, so I'm pretty much 3 vehicles at a time, my loaded 4x4 crew cab pickup, my wife's ride (she likes cars too, so she gets a nice car), and 1 "toy" currently my special ordered 2018 Corvette ZO6/ZO7 coupe with 7 speed manual, and I'm getting ready to order a '24 or'25 Corvette coupe, haven't decided on whether it will be the ZO6 or E-Ray version. That Gold Trans Am has always been a favorite, although I've loved every car I've owned, but it just was a really nice car to drive, and never felt intimidating, ans I never had to tiptoe with it. I love my ZO6, but in true "car guy" fashion, I did some mods to it, you open the hood and it looks stock except for the Intake, but there's an extra 200HP there that WILL bite you if you're not careful. Strangely, I know where the Trans Am is, maybe someday I'll try to buy it back, don't think my wife would have issue with that, since it was our "dating car", then there's the fact she just got her new Mercedes AMG E63S sedan, so she remains fastest girl in the 'hood. @@dannydennis318

Doesn't really matter in 78 it would be cool to have a TA 66 automatic also. My brother did order a brand new 4 Speed blue WS6 3.42 to posi. We also ordered for brand new 1979 4 speed Trans Am. One was 10th anniversary and one of them was black and gold special. And one of the four came in Olds 403 automatic the red one because they said they ran out of TA 6.6 engines and we kept it anyway.
