Man, i remember this as a kid. The all star games were so cool back then. All the cool uniforms, players didnt change leagues as much so there was a level of mystery, and no interleague play.

Yes, it was the one time other than the World Series you could see the AL vs. the NL. You got to see teams, players, uniforms, and logos that you only saw on magnets, toy helmet banks, plastic batting helmets, etc. Back then no internet, no chance to see everything at once. These games kids waited for. Their baseball card heroes playing in front of them. It was epic! It was an epic time too. I miss it!

And I miss the diffefent uniforms, qnd the timelessness of baseball. This forced pace of play stimks, all the little enjoyable moments of baseball are lost, because of Manfted who thinks he knoes what impatient folk want. No its what owners want people in the park ad out asap, less staff to pay, Angelos Jr. sends ushers home early frequently, Closes food stores by 7th. Heck.they are open barely and hour. I got to see Dave Parker in Milwaukee for a brief time. He was a phenomenal player! A true legend who had a Hall of Fame career! But his days in Pittsburgh with Willie Stargell were some of the most incredible seasons he had. I've always been a Brewers fan, but I also just loved to watch baseball no matter who was playing. National League games however always had a really unique feel since my team was in the AL. Players like Mike Schmidt, Gary Carter, Lou Brock, Steve Garvey, Gaylord Perry, and so many other legendary players. The 70's and 80's had some of the most amazing and iconic games and players. It was always a great experience to watch a baseball game on Saturday afternoons on TV, but NOTHING could ever beat the experience of going to a game live. For me that was Milwaukee County🏟Stadium🏟! It was always fun and always a great time. 👍 I still love to see these games from back then!

Still the very best all star game I ever watched! Notice how the NL players reacted after the last out. In an interview I saw a couple years ago, Pete Rose talked about how they felt about playing the AL, saying that greats like Hank Aaron, Willie Mays don’t fly across the country to play in an exhibition game. They were promoting baseball and played to win, every time... PS: those throws by Parker are two of the greatest assists by an outfielder EVER!

Even though the Yankees players were there to help the American League team win in a American League city, fans still hated them enough to boo the heck out of them. And KUDOS to the Announcer for passing Reggie Jackson by. That was epic! LOL! Being a Brewers fan, especially in the late 70's and early 80's, the Yankees were the thorn in the Brewers side. But they did have a phenomenally good team. In 1978 Ron Guidry won the Cy-Young Award with a 25-3 record and a 1.74 ERA! My all-time favorite player Mike Caldwell on the Brewers was second. The end of the last homestand the Brewers played we waited outside for autographs. Mike Caldwell came out just after 2 other players a but further down had come out. I remember thinking, Thank God I waited! I ran over to Mike Caldwell and he gave me a 🤫Shhh🤫 signal. I kept quiet. He mentioned he wanted to get home before they had to leave for the last Road trip of the season. He signed my Yearbook and I thanked him. He had tossed his dufflebag into the trunk of his car, then he reached back in, pulled out his Home team 🧢cap🧢, he put it on my head and he said, "Thanks a lot kid." I lost my mind! I honestly can't remember exactly what I said, but I know I ran back to my Mom and Dad and showed them what he did for me. My Dad immediately grabbed it and put it in the car. I remember being so upset until he said if someone knows that it's a players cap, a game worn cap, they might steal it. Ironically enough years later it was stolen, by a supposed friend after my Mom passed away. But the memories I have of that day will never ever be taken away. I was already a huge baseball fan, but after that one day, I was a fan for life. I still am and will be until my last breath. I thank you for sharing this game with us. These classic games are so special to so many of us fans. Please keep it up and God Bless you.

I always laugh a little whenever I see the shot of Pete Rose bowling over Ray Fosse in the 1970 ASG. If you watch Rose, as he’s coming down the line, he starts to go into his patented head first dive, but stumbles the slightest bit. He never meant to run Fosse over, he stumbled. An accident that ruined Fosse’s career. 10 years later, Rose would slam into the Astros’ Bruce Bochy in the NLCS, in Philly we celebrate it as a big play, but Bochy had already dropped the ball and hitting him was unnecessary. As a side note, I once had the pleasure of running into Greg Luzinski in a restaurant. It was later in the evening and the restaurant was pretty empty and the Bull regaled us with stories of his career. Someone asked him about Rose and to paraphrase Luzinski, he said “Rose’s while persona was a front. I played with him, in the clubhouse after the game with no cameras on him, he didn’t care if we won or lost as long as he got his hits.” Another story from 1980, in the World Series when a pop up popped out of catcher Bob Boonems glove into the air and rose caught it and the announcers and many fans thought “what a great hustle play by rose.” Except that it was Rose’s play to begin with, as first baseman he should have been making the play, with Boone backing him up. As Boone said describing the play (laughingly because they won the World Series)-“Charlie hustle my ass”
