Thanks for the memories, i bought that bike brand new in 1980 ... it was on sale as a leftover, being 9 years old I didn't need the latest model

Nice restore, that pipe guard is fancy, dirt cycles sure come with trick parts.

I laughed when l heard the sound ! Exactly how l remembered them as a kid. I raced the YZ80C and when these new canterlever models came out, l just couldn't catch them. They look so innocuous idling away, but get these little hornets into the power band and they can give many in the adult classes a run for their money.

Tons of fun on that thing!.. it would through the chain once in a while and and mangle the clutch arm in front of the countershaft😥.. the cops couldnt catch me and the neihibors hated me!😁🍻

Had the same bike from 79-that 2 stroke engine sound brings back memories. Still have it, but its not running and sitting in a barn. Maybe...just maybe....

Used to have a 79. The only thing that doesnt look original is the front number plate. Very nice

I love it! I had a '78 YZ80E. The only difference to my knowledge was the '79 said Yamaha on both sides of the seat cover and the '768 did not. I'm trying to track down a '78 for a restoration project. This bike is beautiful!

'79 still didn't have a 6 spd.? I think that's correct. The RM smoked me all those years but I had a wider powerband. Little better in the tight stuff. I had a '77

79 had a stronger frame, 6 speed trans & plastic gas tank. Faster too. 78 had a problem with the frame and swing arm breaking with faster riders.

YZ80E... my first bike... In Australia they were white... fast bike, chain used to jump off and damage the clutch pin which was just above the front sprocket...40 years later still love riding. When I sold this, I bought the RM125T..... couldn't even touch the ground......😍😍😍 it.......

@@wldmike223 The '79 had a metal tank, identical to the '78. I think 1980 was the first year of the plastic tanks for the YZ80.

Sound exactly as mine when idling, I always thought that metal slapping sound from the cylinder was a fault of my one, must be normal. I thought the bearings or the crank had an issue after all this time.
