The Community Transit line here in Seattle, Washington uses these RTS buses. While I regret that I've never ridden on these buses, I always admired the shape of these buses, and always wondered why other transit buses didn't adopt this shape. Even 30 yrs later, they still look futuristic.

I haven't heard this engine sound for at least 16 years (when the MTA retired the old RTS-03 in...1993?). Thanks for allowing me to relive my childhood memories.

when we were all very young and me and my grandmother rode the septa bus it was a GMC RTS SLOPING BACK BUSES back in the 90s they have a 6v92 Detroit diesel engine with the v730 Allison automatic transmission and the seats are blue those buses are fun to ride on than the nova low floor 40102 buses the GMC rts sloping back buses have the same engine and transmission combination like the grummanflxible 870 adb buses the generation should be the flxible buses of the 80s I've love the high winding sound of the engine and transmission of those buses as always

I drove an RTS I for Northern Illinois University Huskie Line in DeKalb, IL when I was in college. We got them when they were brand new with a white and yellow stripe color scheme. We called them the "space shuttle" because they were so futuristic. I loved that bus...very user friendly to drive.

If only the 2nd and 3rd gears were closer together.....like maybe 2-3 seconds apart...that would be super awesome. A man can dream though, a man can dream.... One thing is for sure son, you know how to handle your buses.

I remember this particular bus with transmission issue sounded like Lansing, MI CATA's 1983 GMC RTS 04 #319 before it gotten rehabbed.

Nice! I noticed he locked the transmission in first for a bit before letting it going into 1st lock-up at about 0:35. Then shortly after, when starting up again, he didn't lock it into first until it started to go into lockup again and you hear it rev back up. NICE!!

Indeed I thought the same thing about the shape of these busses, especially the front, rounded instead of square. Wierd thing is, in these busses i thought the bell ringer strip was also kinda futuristic in 1980. I was 11 then and wierd thing is, now all the busses have reverted back to the old pull cord technology for the bell ringer.

@dredre1315 Mostly in O.T.R. (over-the-road) buses like the MCI A3/C3s. Very few transit buses were specified with the 8V92TA, among them some Neoplan AN460 articulated buses in the 1983-86 period.
