I miss going to Bathurst, what a race it is/was! During the 90's the company I worked was a sponsor of one the cars, it was great to hang out in the Pits amongst all the action.

i used to be a Bathurst tragic, watching the race all the way through from start to finish while building the model of my architectural project. for uni. I'm appalled that Channel 7 would junk the tapes for the Great Race.

Nothing like the sound of an Aussie 308 definitely held it's own against the 351 Cleveland and the Chevy 350 R I P Holden.

So good to see a proper Bathurst 1000 with multiple makes. So boring with two makes these days...i don't bother watching. Thanks for posting a real Bathurst race. Come on Camaro!

Wait a minute, you can still get full length tape of past Bathurst, but at a price. How do I know you may ask? I bought several races including top 10 Hardies Heroes (if you want) bout 8 years ago. And I dont think anyone at Ch7 is stupid to throw 'em out. Besides, how do you think Chevron obtain footages for their dvds. Anyway....well worth if you're a real tru-blu tin-top fan....

It was called BREVILLE not rebel conrod straight in those days. Bartlett's Camaro had 500plus hp, and got up to 281kph. Brock's Commodore had 332hp, and was doing 250 plus kph down conrod.

Electric vehicles for the Bathurst 1000? I don't think so!! Stating the obvious, nothing like the sound of a V8!! Glorious!

Kev Bartletts Camaro was actually clocked at 175mph or 281kph that year, but he was hampered by faulty rear drum brakes, so he couldn't stop that well during the race. As for dick doing 279kph that's far fetched, considering the xd was about 50hp down and less aero than the xc coupes the year before. His lap times were slower than the xc's as well!

Thanks for posting. REAL Bathurst racing, not the multi-coloured sameness of todays cars of which i have no interest. 2010 race on tv now, but i'm on the computer watching the old races. I still cringe when see the repeat of Dick Johnsons' crash in his green Falcon.

Yes Johnson would have done a very good time in 83, maybe a 2min16 or 15.(Brock was the fastest in qualifying with a 2min15.3, and took pole with a 2min16.2)But those car's were still well off today's times, they just didn't have the outright power and straight line speed of a Supercar! but
@andcom05

So Johnson was doing 279kmh with only 320hp, and laping in under 2min 10sec that the Supercar's are doing today, you have got to be joking? Brock's Commodore had 332hp and was a much lighter and aero car that was clocked at just over 250kmh! Johnson actually had over 400hp , and was laping in the 2:21 to 2:25 region and didn't get under the 2:20min mark until 83!!! The only reason he led at the start is because Bartlett had brake trouble, or else he most likely would have won that day.
