European bumpers really improve the look of these cars. Superb example.

I have a Bentley T1 1970. Identical to the Wraith. Same condition. Masons black, Magnolia pipped black upholstery. Upgraded lights, electronic ignition, L.P.G. gas converted. Thoroughly faultless and a joy to own and drive.😊

The Silver Wraith was 4" longer in the chassis than the Silver Shadow and all of that was dedicated to rear seat foot space. How much of that 4" does the division mechanism take up? Is there any particular reason only the drivers seat had the front headrest, perhaps it was standard fitting or customer custom order? Very nice car without any question. There is a classic elegance to black and a light coloured interior and the dark piping adds yet another touch of "special" to the interior and the wood looks very nicely coloured and figured from what we could see in the quick view of the dashboard..

I can't remember where I've heard it, and I don't know if it's true, but I remember figures telling the rear legroom of an lwb with divider is comparable to a swb without divider, so about 4 inches? It's not so much the mechanism itself, but the question of clearing the partition from the front seat backrest. If you look again, you will see that the inclination of the backrest protrudes about 4 inches into the rear compartment. The thickness of the partition wall is dependent on the straight and vertical glass divider following a curve downwards as close to the backrest as possible. I have a hard time believing RR would deliver a car with less legroom than the short wheelbase car. On the Daimler limousine popular amongst the British royals this problem is solved with having a very short and narrow bench seat for the front compartment making the driver sitting straight up very close to the steering wheel, and with a completely vertical partition wall between the front and rear doors. A not very comfortable solution for longer drives, but then again the chauffeurs were used to sitting outdoors in the old days. This made the car unsellable in Germany where it simply broke the safety rules for how small a drivers compartment could be.

It is possible the passenger side headrest is just mounted off and following the car. But otherwise with chauffeur driven cars the (often) single passenger is sitting on the right side in the rear, since this is closest to the curb. And probably with a single driver sitting in the front, the owner probably ordered the car without a passenger side headrest because they wanted a better view and there would probably never be a front passenger anyway.

I have a 83 Spur here in Australia with the division. Apparently only 44 or 46 were made. I wonder what number Wraiths/Spurs were made LHD and what number were RHD with the division. The green HQ Statesman from Australia is a nice example too.

The number of LHD Wraith IIs are very low because literally zero were sold new in North America. This was because the fuel tank was relocated behind the back seat under newly introduced American federal safety standards and as such, no rear AC could be fitted. Any Wraith II divisions in the US were all subsequently imported as this one was. This would not be the case for SZ division and yet I’ve never seen one here. Very odd. Statesman; being an expat Aussie of course I had to have one!!
