@ChrisAndCats
2 жыл бұрын
On bare concrete, for either type (after appropriate prep) you'd likely need more than one coat & the first is usually thinned a bit. Chlorinated rubber can be a proper pest to get to stay on without any blistering if there's the slightest trace of damp or other contaminants though. You have to think of the future too - you can put water-based on top of rubber but not the other way round.
@deboerRA

@@nicolaclayton-reid9839 My experience is that you need 3 layers the first time you paint it. (first one has to be diluted). The problem is that you can pretty much repaint it every year as the chlorine will make the colour fade. Doesn’t matter how expensive the paint is. I bought a house with a painted pool 3,5 years ago and I had to repaint it every winter to make it look nice. Last winter I decided to completely overhaul the pool and tile it. Cost me some time and a lot of money, but now it looks pristine and it will last for many years.

In 1960 my father and many of his fireman friends built a pool at our house, it is made of concrete. The walls are over a foot thick, and so is the bottom of it. To this day it is still used in summer to swim and winter (when I was young) to ice skate on. It took an entire summer to build and lots of beer. He has been gone many years now, but his pool is as strong today as it was 62 years ago. BTW, he only had an 8th grade education. My family and most of their neighbours had pools since the 60s /70s in Spain. Most of them lined with tiles, only cheaper ones were painted only. Then the fashion was the small tiny tiles (I hate them). There were a lot of kidney shaped pools too. I remember all the kids helping to clean the pool after the winter, washing all walls and refilling it with water from the well that was cold AF. The first 2 days it was almost freezing.
@johncoops6897
2 жыл бұрын
@@sandruki - The tiny tiles fashion (mosaic) were bad for a pool because there was so much grout and the algae and dirt would get trapped. I remember having to brush everything, it was a terrible job. They used small tiles because all the surfaces were curved, and I guess there was no good paint that would last a long time. I remember that if you had a painted pool you needed to drain it for repainting every few years, which was expensive. If you maintain the pool during winter, in the same way as during summer, then the cleaning is not a problem.

Hope you're using two-part epoxy pool paint from Olympic, Poxolon2. And if I had to guess that's probably bikini blue but I guess it could be blue mist. And even after an acid wash and a pool wash you should use primer. I live in Indianapolis and I see this every year but the epoxy will go over rubber-based but rubber-based can't go over epoxy and epoxy is stronger so you definitely want to make sure you're using that and especially two coats since you didn't use primer but you seem to know what you're doing for the most part but I do strictly commercial pools so it's a little different. Just want to say I like your videos and I wasn't trying to sound like a smartass! I have been inspired by you to start making videos because after 27 years of doing pools the job gets kind of monotonous
