My dad purchased a VCR about a week before this game and we recorded the game and the Pat Dye Show. We spent the better part of the next year coming home after school watching the replay. Always loved how Dye sent them back out onto the field.

Thanks so much for posting this. I've been to a lot of Auburn games live, but this one is still (and always will be) my favorite. My dad started taking me to Auburn games in the Barfield era. If these weren't your only memories of Auburn football, as they were mine, you just can't understand what Coach Dye, this team, this season and this game meant us fans. A couple of things....for this to be the biggest win of Coach Dye's career, which it was at this point, listening to Coach Dye, you would have thought Auburn lost the game. Guess he was such a great coach because he was never satisfied. Coach said Auburn fans would be glad not to hear him cough on the show anymore, but it was great getting to hear him again. RIP Coach! The next year, Auburn played the toughest schedule in the country and finished 11-1. Texas beat Auburn, Auburn beat Georgia and Georgia beat Texas. The national championship, which I realized was a joke, was given to an 11-1 Miami team that was slaughtered 28-3 by a Florida team that lost to Auburn and Georgia.

Joseph what u commented was like u were speaking for both of us, I’ve always been an Auburn fan & attempted Auburn games with my dad! People always ask, why r u for Auburn? I’d tell them how I felt & how it was!! Like my dad always said, we grew up on a farm & Auburn is an agriculture 🧑🌾 school & Alabama was doctors 🥼& lawyers & we were’nt that!! My dad made sense to me & other folks would say they’d never thought of it like that!!! & that has always stuck with me in my 53 yrs on this great earth 🌏 RIP Coach Jordan, Coach Dye, Jim Fyffe “Greatest If All Times” & Rid Bramlett!!! I am AUBURN & I Love It. WAR DAMN EAGLE 🦅 Also RIP My Wonderful Dad & My Only Younger Brother!!! All Auburn Fans & Forever Auburn Fans

@ Don't worry about the misspelled words. Glad to see other Auburn fans appreciate this era of history, and this game. To the poster above, I'm surprised how the 1983 Georgia game in Athens never seems to make any Auburn fan's (other than mine) list of favorite games. I guess because it was a defensive slug-fest and didn't have a lot of points. Georgia was 8-0-1, hadn't lost a home or SEC game since 1979, it was Georgia's only loss of the 1983 season, and it clinched Auburn's first SEC title since 1957 (although I think 1972 should count as an SEC title). It was a monumental victory and my 2nd favorite Auburn game, after the 1982 Iron Bowl.

@@josephholmes40 yes 🙌 we did’nt have much to brag about much until this 82 season except for a few small victories along the way! When Auburn won this game it was like the beginning of the bragging again for us Auburn fans!! I was fourteen yrs old & my brother was 11, when this game ended we ran down the side of the road in our small town cheering to the store about a half of a mile away & ribbing the “BAMERS” cause they were in the majority of course but they never changed my mind! U spoke of Shug, I remember my dad went to the iron bowl when coach Jordan coached his last game & my dad brought me & my brother one of those trays with Shug & Bear in it, still got mine!!! Also I remembered my dad was at the 71 or 72 game, the “OUNT BAMA PUNT” game, great game! the bamers always had the advantage in B’ham & thanks to Coach Dye that came to an end!! Bear said he would’nt never coach a game in Auburn as long as he lived & Coach Dye said ur not gonna live forever!! Classic line, another one was in Coach Dyes 1st year or so was asked how long it’d take to beat Alabama & he said it would take 70 minutes!! He was so smart & had his players lay it on the line every time & another thing is he had that defense where they swarmed the ball 🏈 & was head hunters! Coach Dye knew how to win & coach against Bear, believe he got in his head which he would have never admitted. I miss those days back then in my teen yrs & the years when Auburn was’nt lil brother anymore!!! War Eagle 🦅 my friend & glad to virtually meet u & I know I would like 👍🏼 & get along just fine with another “ Auburn Man” God Bless You & Your Family

Aubarn barely beat and survived a sick and dying Bear Bryant. Even in his condition he chased their ass all over the field and almost beat that ass
