I was 14 in 1982 and remember reading about this tragedy in MiniCross magazine. This is such an amazing tribute to these boys.

I was racing mini Intermediate in ‘82 and was crushed when I read about their passing in CycleNews the Wednesday after. I looked up to those boys and wanted to be as fast as them. This is an Amazing tribute to three of the fastest minicycle racers the sport has known. Great job on those bikes and I hope to see them in a MX museum one day.

what a great thing you are doing..... only us guys in our 50's will ever know in human history how fantastic these 80cc bikes were..... truly super special time, soooooo sad for these kids that died, but they took with them in their soul these 2 stroke motors that were total magic to us.... and only if you were there can know what i mean.... my first bike was a brand new 81 cr80r.... i grew like a weed and later got a 82 RM 125.... the best memories a kid could have .............GOD BLESS those kids....and GOD bless you Brother

I had one of those as well. Kyle’s dad Carl talked my dad into getting me the 83 KX 80 and after that my career really took off. Unfortunately, most of the other 80s could not keep up with the 83 KX at the time.

Great story mate. The 82 RM80Z was my first new bike , it cost me $769.00 in Melbourne Australia. Can't believe 42 years have passed , I also was 14 and still ride today . It's a shame these kids are not around anymore , good on you mate .

1982 was my first year racing in District 5 and and the RM80Z was first race bike -- I wasn't at Ponca (and news travelled so much slower back) then but I remember reading that tragic story in the magazines. Those R&D Suzuki's were legendary back then. Amazing job restoring those three bikes.

Robert, incredible build and tribute to those young men. I'm assuming your a 69 model, like myself, and I remember this story. The bikes you built are just awesome and my classmate growing up had a 82 Suzuki RM 80, that I would just drool over! LOL. What's always bothered me about this story is that I've been a locomotive engineer for 30 years and this video hits a little too close to home! God bless you and thank you for the wonderful tribute!

Yes Chris does amazing work, how they went to him and how the came back looking off the showroom new was impressive. I felt bad because when I said the suspension went to Texas. I totally pulled a blank on Chris’s name and business name. He and everyone else who helped on the project are mentioned on the display that goes with the bikes.

very very cool! i aquired an '84 yz80 and restored it to near perfection. it had most stock parts and a rebuilt motor already. i did some research and found out that Eddie Hicks was the '84 champion. i read a similar story that some of his rival racers and probably friends passed away from an accident. im wondering if these were the same guys...im thinking they were. i still have my '84 80 just trying to fix compression issues to get it running..i cant wait. rip to those young racer moto bros..i raced motocross on a '75 yz80 and numerous desert races and gp's including '75 world mini gp. i remember Ward, Myerscough and Brown being in my race... my next bike was a '77 rm100 ✊✌
