That was my first marathon, brings so many great memories. I’m 67 years old now and have been accepted to run it this year.

Still get shivers watching this. My hot weather disaster was Boston 2004 at 87 degrees. I finished it on my feet.

Pat Petersen was a celebrated N.Y. runner. It was heart breaking when he passed. In this race, his bib number was 55. Unfortunately, he was 55-years-old when he passed. He'll never be forgotten. ❤

Fantastic race---one of the best due to the heat, and I remember watching this live when I was a little kid.

Me: (Channel surfing) Why would anyone watch an old baseball game from 1989? Also Me: Watches old marathon races from the 1980's on KZitem.

@tinakohf @tinakohf This was at the early stages of the so-called running craze. This footage is mostly forgotten and seeing how the NYC marathon has evolved to be such a big event, it is interesting to see the origins.

This race used to pass my block on First Avenue, which made crossing it to get to the OTB at second or third avenue a nightmare, and taxis were imposible. A big inconvenience because the runners would keep coming until well into the afternoon.

@simonedwards5564 She was amazing. But she is mostly overlooked or forgotten now with the many running women who have come after her.

LMAO, did he say Rod Dixon had "a number of beers" the night before the race. I doesn't matter how much water you drink, if yo have a number of beers and no electrolyte replacement, it "the alcohol" will dehydrate you. I guess they didn't now much about hydration in the 80's. No wonder Dixon performed so poorly!

Pizzolato hardly smiled for the crowd. That is not a picture of a marathon champion but of a man in anguish and hoping the race would end.
