The funny thing is that Thomas Fahrner of West Germany who didn't qualify for final came out in the B-final to place those for 9th through 16th and swam faster than DiCarlo's winning time and broke the Olympic record.

Haha😅 from Japan; I saw these two races when I was 16 yrs old high school swimmer. He hit the after finish with frustration 😠

0:26 Ronald McKeon. Of course, years later his son David & daughter Emma became champion swimmers with Emma being the most decorated swimmer at the Tokyo Olympics.

I think the result would have been different if the Soviets we're not as stupid in 1984 as the Americans were in 1980. Salnikov was still pretty .much unbeatable at this point.
