@SkylineToTheSeaAndMe Thank you. These are great the way they are or to modify. They used some realy care in making them and the woods are great. There's nothing lacking in these guitars. I believe that the Japanese Strats in any form and the USA Strat Plus are probably Fender's finest moments.

Hey I just bought an 85 deluxe jet black.with type 3 tremolo. It's in great shape but the guy replaced the original locking system with a roller nut and he said if I install locking tuners this should do the trick cause I'm looking to use the tremolo to play some late 70s early 80s rush.. so I ordered hipshot locking tuners , and keep the rolling nut... do you think this will work????

@DjLad Yes, those are the USA made "Dan Smith Era" Stratocasters. I have one also watch?v=lRVteM3kVsA they are available on Ebay in fair amounts. There are always a few on there. So, with that information, they will pop right up. They generally will sell between the $1,200.00 to $1,800.00 range depending on the finish and condition and how original everything is to the guitar. If you need any further help, just let me know.

@slikchoux You are so correct my friend. The E series (1980's) especially from Japan, are truly the best instruments that Fender has ever put out. These guitars (in all original condition) are amazing guitars. I'd really like to see the ones you have if you will post them.

I have this exact same strat in aged pearl white color (more of a smokey yellow now). This is the first time I've seen one with all the exact same hardware as mine: System 3 tremolo with amazing whammy bar, and the also extremely amazing tuning lock lever thing at the head stock. And, like you, I cannot for the life of me figure out why they don't make them like this anymore. It's unbelievable how perfect it is. Most amazing strat ever!

@riseofthefallen301 LOL, I've actually been waiting for this one to fall in my lap for many years. Same color too. I would've accepted any color, but it had to be near mint and that metallic green presented itself at a stupidly low price, so I just had to have it. Such a sweet guitar. It feels like a man's guitar. It's got some serious weight to it and it's just laid out so well. Everything on it makes sense and steps outside of the box, in a great way.

I love it, and still can't believe i have it. Mine has a system 2 trem with the string tuners in the end with flat tip screws. It plays great and by the way it is my first fender. I am 42 years old and love the 80s sound. I also have a vintage Kramer with an original Floyd Rose. Great video and it helped me with my research. Thanks Bro...

@papatom609 Hi there Papatom my friend. I've heard from the guy looking for the Sys 3 bar and I don't have any spares at all. The big block was a one of a kind built by John Cruz at Fender right after they opened up the Corona Factory. It was well before he went over to the to the Custom Shop. So, he used a left over '83 Fullerton neck and body and put on the more modern 87'/'88 usa hardware and did the inlay work. Kind of a thing to do in his spare time. So, it's the only one around.
@groovydjs
13 жыл бұрын
@BOULDERDP The lack of the serial number indicates someone messing with or replacing the neck. All had the serials on the headstock through 1987. If you have one made after that, then the serial would be on the back of the neck by the heel where it attaches to the body. That began in 1988. Many folks sanded them off from back there as they were ashamed to have Made in Japan on their guitars. They are shooting themselves for doing and thinking that now. lol

Nice video man. You have the Deluxe 27-5700 model there, that was the most expensive model in 1985, it cost $759 (didn't come with case) back then. A Fender Strat Standard cost $699 in 1984/6 which came with a case (I have copies of the original price catalogues) I have a 27-4100 model which is exactly the same as the 27-5700, but with the System 2 rather than the System 3 trem. The 27-4100 cost $549 and didn't come with a case either. I know a lot of people seem to think the MIJ guitars where dirt cheap then, but they where pretty expensive too back then. I Googled what 1985 $550 would be equal to today (2020) with inflation etc. It came to $1342.08, so not cheap at all. If you own a Made In Japan guitar you know how good they are. Only people that have never owned MIJ guitar will tell you USA guitars are better.

@AerosmithVault I hear you. Roland made the amazing Jazz Chorus amps. One of the best clean amps in history. The cube series has always been pretty cool too. You can take 2 people on the exact same gear and one will sound horrible and one will be the best thing you've ever heard in your life. It's all in the hands of the player. As long as the player is feeling the tone, he playes better and it comes out in the overall performance. So, inspiration and groove can be heard (sort of). lol

I totally agree with every word. But most of us who replaced the original lever lock with Floyd nuts only did because the original parts broke and there was no other suitable replacement. I have one with the System2 bridge, which was originally the Freeflyte tremolo on the 1982 US Elite Stratocaster, &while ut lacks the fine tuners, it is still a fine bridge. I agree that they should not have been discontinued.

@mvironda68 Sure, these are super simple to set up, but you need to have the correct trem bar. That is where the tools to set up your entire system are located at. The bottom of the trem bar has one tool, you unscrew the tip and the other tool is under there. So, these are about a hundred bucks to find used. If you have the right wrenches, very simple to set up. Let me know what you have available. Scott

This colour was called "Emererald Mist". I had the same guitar in that colour. It had quite some features, like an (height) adjustable nut. It was a pain in the ass guitar when it came to string replacement with that system 3 tremolo.. I broke off that lever one time and had to order a new one. A Floyd Rose Original holds it tuning better than that system. The guitar was expensive when bought new at the time 1986). There weren't many American Strats made around that year, the company was just taken over and Fenders were almost exclusively made in Japan.

Almost right. Fender was sold in 1985 and the new owners were already making the American Standard Strats in 1987. In fact, they were already making some guitars in 1986, the '62 reissue and '57 reissueStrat, but only a handfull a day... Like I said, there weren't many around. Howdy Jared. Those trems are pretty groovy. Fender had did something similar just once before closing the USA factory for the move. The springs etc. are actually under the pickguard. It's a groovy design that actually works quite well. Here is a pic to let you see what is going on with it: www.strat-talk.com/data/attachments/41/41801-45e18ed949ff3149bb98718e40de806a.jpg Congrats on the MINT find! I'd really like to see some pics when it gets there.

I must agree, the Japan Fenders are no doubt better than the American ones. BTW the greatest word not in the dictionary IS guitarded!

I'd like to see Fender introduce some new pickup designs and different pickup choices. I'd like to see more wide/slim style necks ala Ibanez. Fender doesn't so these things because people don't buy them. People want the same Strat that Jimi Hendrix played. No one ever went broke giving people what they want. You can't really blame Fender for making what sells and not making what doesn't.

@groovydjs It sure would! You keep seeing the same reissues over and over and, I'll admit, a lot of them are good. But it would be nice to see something like this brought back to us. Given the chance, I will own one again. They're just so damn hard to come by in good shape.

Hey can I use any locking nut to replace the stock one? I have one but it's gone bad.

I've looked high and low for one to no avail, sad but true. I let someone play mine and the idiot broke it. I replaced it with a standard Strat nut and it still works great. I almost have to work very hard to make it go out of tune. If you ever find one please let me know

@@genefowler5799 you can't find the camlock nut anywhere. Forced to have one custom made from a machinist.

The best strats you can buy were built in Japan in the 80s. Straighter neck better body contours and they play and sound better.

Like most people who own one (or more of these) contemporary strats; I assume you don't want to sell any, which I don't blame you. But, I am just looking to buy some of the hardware that are on these so I can customize one of my new guitars. I can't find a system 3 tremolo anywhere, so if you happen to have any (or just parts of one) that's not connected to a guitar, I am interested in buying, so please let me know. Also, if you have same type of tuning lock which doesn't require an allen wrench, I am looking to buy one of those as well. I'd really appreciate it if you can help me out (or at least point me in direction to find the stuff) . I'll post you a pic of mine on here which is customized now, with: new pickups 'JB Barton' SSS config (instead of the original HSS ): and a white pick-guard. It's still a beauty.

I have this in black witha cutom pickguard single volume duncan humbucker and duncan single space humbucker... One of the previous owners did this mod... He also removed the lever lock and put a brass shimmed floyd style lock nut... $299 used through guitar center... I just purchased a mint original in an orangish metalic color with original case for $999 private dealer... E series strats are far superior to ANY fender I've ever played or owned!!!
