Maltese, Blizzard and License were Greg Stumps top 3 best ever. The filming sequenced with the music of ZTT. Its simply amazing. He was the best!

I loved skiing, then I saw Greg Stump films, then I really loved skiing. Roots in Michigan, adventure lead me to spend a decade in AK. Ski life is the only life.

I loved this movie so very much as a child growing up in Whitefish, Montana. Plake came to town to ski with my neighbors and I. I still have my original 212 K2 Xtreme (DH boards). And omg ... I still remember so many of these lines.

It's insane how mogul skiing has matured since the old days. Probably developed more in quality than any other ski discipline from around this time.

Yeah, I had exactly the same reaction. Even in the competition footage they're really slamming from rut to rut on their tails, whereas a modern competitor has to aggressively drive the tips down and maintain snow contact down the backsides to be viable. Berthon (who won that Tignes event) and Grospiron were particularly egregious offenders IMO. Admittedly competitions have moved to artificial and therefore much more consistent moguls, and that accounts for some of the difference, but if you watch a modern competitor free-ski it's a lot better than this ("better" in the sense that it's at least as fast while also being smoother and better-balanced). I think that along with Brassard, Shupletsov drove a lot of the progression - he was one of the first that I remember really being super-fluid throughout the run. IMO Moseley would have had a harder go of it in 98 if Shupletsov had lived to compete. One thing that isn't as much of a factor there is the skis. At the time the technique developed to roughly its current state they were still running 195 cm Hart F17Ts and the like. The skis are a bit shorter now (a top mens' competitor might run 178s) but not as dramatically so as in other disciplines. EDIT: Hattrup's technique around 22:30 is actually pretty good. I'd forgotten how well he did at absorbing and driving his tips into the next mogul, especially by the standards of the time. Also, I'd forgotten that this was the movie with the infamous slo-mo of Berthon slamming all over the place on his tails (at 35:00).

Sounds like Tom Blackwell (probably with guitarist Bob Thompson). They were responsible for a bunch of the original tracks on both Maltese and The Good, The Rad...

@@dylankell-kirkman8831 I think you are correct. Both Tom & Bob composed tunes for the soundtrack. I know Bob’s are the Xtreme skiing, and the ending credits (tune is called Grace), because I played sax on them and arranged the horns. I played on the title track too, which Tom wrote. Dune skiing I think is Tom’s. He had just gotten a LinnDrum, and was using it a lot in his productions.

Perhaps the worst ski film ever made. Some great ski sequences and skiers, but barely watchable.
