Glad I found this! QUESTION: how do I know if the belts work besides braking or accelerating really hard? We drive a motorhome and those situations are uncomfortable to test 😅 they don't lock when you pull them out quickly like modern ones, do they?

I don't remember if they did the pull-to-lock, sorry. If you can access the belt reel, you could unbolt it from the cab, tip it by hand to simulate G forces, and see if that locks it up. Be careful if it's a newer rig, though--it may have seat belt pretensioners tied to the airbag system. Maybe disconnect the battery first on the off chance you piss off a yaw sensor and make the system assume there's been a crash. Failing that, I guess you could park on a hill at various angles to see if that makes them lock--but I imagine that would also create an uncomfortable situation. Good luck!

Thank you very much for this video! I just picked up an ‘89 f250 and I couldn’t figure out what was going on with the seatbelts. It is very annoying not having them sit snuggly like a normal car, definitely going to eliminate this.

Did you come up with a fix for the F150 seatbelt that didn't require too much work? I was hoping I just could just rip the stupid buttons out on the doors and cut the wire to disable it but that wasn't the case for me. My seatbelt still goes loose and I'm still having to constantly adjust it.

Good Video. I'm from germany and now i have also a Ford F150 from 1988. The Problem is that it is only allowed for me to Drive with a functional seat belt that is not damaged. Do you know were i get a New from? A lap belt would be enough or otherwise a 3. Belt but i dont know if this can be installed. Would be great if you or someone Else could help me. Thanks a lot.

We found a set at a wrecking yard. I think they were out of a later truck of the same bodystyle, because they didn't have the stupid push cable arrangement that the originals did. The reels bolted right up and I put rubber bungs in the hole in the doorjamb where the cables used to go. Looks pretty good and they seem to work just fine. I imagine these aren't as common in German junkyards as they are here. If you need a part number or aftermarket supplier, try asking on the FTE forum (www.ford-trucks.com) in the Bricknose ('87-'96) section.

Wow what a spring! I use those belts on my welding cart to hold the welder. That way you just un-clip the belt and you can flip up the door to get to the wire spool. A ratchet would work better but its nice to quickly get in and out.

Not a bad idea! Might be a good replacement for the bungie cords holding my gas bottle up. And yeah, that spring was not playing around!

Could I just cut off the black part that sticks out of the bottom that the door pushes on? Would it hurt anything?

hello, how strong is the spring in a common seat belt? im looking to use it for a custom power cord retractor but can;t get any info on the load they can handle.

It's nowhere near strong enough for that, unfortunately. Imagine the little spring from a pull-back toy car mechanism scaled up. I'd have a look at an old canister-style vacuum cleaner with the cord retract built in--preferably one with a thing you press to retract instead of one of the ganky auto-retracts that never works quite right.

In that truck the little cable thing would work great with a syringe full of antibiotics on the end. Every time you close the door, you get vaccinated.

That would actually be useful on this truck, provided it vaccinated me against hantavirus.

Hey, how i Re-install this? How can i push it back when bkrh süßes are open? U want to change the belt.

I reinstalled a complete unit that I hadn't taken apart. The ratcheting side shouldn't be too hard to put back together, but I would not want to deal with putting that spring back in its home.
