Getting ready to replace mine...this is one of the best videos I've seen....good camera angles and good step by step procedures, especially FOM (facilitate other maintenance)...e.g....what are the added steps to get at the part you're replacing.

That was interesting. Very good video. I appreciate that you used a tripod or stable surface for your camera and have good sound. The guy who replaced my thermostat put the gasket under the thermostat. Thanx for the video. It leaves me wondering if I should get a new gasket and put it in right or leave mine alone.

Thanks for the comments and views. You need to take the negative battery cable loose to protect the electrical parts from a possible short out. The truck has since been totaled, it had about 220, 000 miles on it. I would correctly install the gasket before it starts to leak.

I have a 1988 1500 4x4. Bought the thermostat that comes with the housing. Mine doesn't have a gasket for the housing but does for the thermostat, did I get the right one

That bracket is infuriating. No where online could I find info for that bracket. And why did GM think it was a good idea to bolt it down on the thermostat housing 🤦♂️

Thanks man, I have a 1989 GMC, I replaced the water pump and wanted to replace the thermostat. I could not figure out how to get that arm support from the tension pulley off the thermostat housing bolt. Was afraid of un coiling the tension spring or some thing. gonna get to that today before winter storm hits. thx man

Did you or anyone have a ground wire on one of those bolts that goes from water neck to manifold? My terminal to that wire broke. Anyone know the gauge size of the wires or terminal and/or where I can order a new one? Not having luck at my parts stores .

Blake My 92 Blazer has the same issue ; there is a ground wire on the bolt in the water neck with no ring terminal on it. I will replace the loose wire with a terminal that fits the bolt diameter. Looks like 16ga wire on my ground.

I'd like to wring the neck of the engineer who piggybacked a serpentine belt bracket nut to one thermostat housing bolt and a ground nut over a star washer on top of the other housing bolt on my V8. I hoped by buying a truck as old as 1988 I wouldn't have to deal with the complicated stupidity of later models.
