When I was 18, I bought a brand new 1989 Black CRX Si. Went off to college in that car. So many memories in that car. I've had many since then but this one stays in my mind as my very favorite. Now almost 50 years old, I want my black CRX back...

These cars downright deserve more respect. As in not thrashing and modifying the hell out of it, used to stroke the owners ego of proving they are faster and having an insatiable desire to be the BADDEST. All the while the car has gone beyond the point of no longer durable, economical, reliable and maintainable. All the qualities that make Honda a Honda and what the manufacturer has endowed on this vehicle. Also Respect by not treating these cars as disposable.

Sadly they do not get the respect they deserve for 2 reasons. What so many have done to make them look like clown cars and 2 I don't think any Japanese's cars from this era are considered as he stated a modern mini cooper. I am a Honda lover to the core and just picked up a rust free SI. She will take some time to get back in order but I hope it ends up as nice as this one.

@SonOvaSon

I’ve had my 91 HF for about 3 years and it’s been amazing to me. Extremely reliable and the mileage is also great. If you have a GF she will love it too it’s pretty comfy and simple for its age. I highly recommend investing in anti theft though I had mine stolen and they took my sick braum bucket seat :\, I was lucky to get it back though. I have a removable steering wheel now but that’s not enough I say get an alarm, one with tracking if you can afford it because if a towing company gets their hands on it it’s going to cost at least $300 to get it back. A kill-switch is also a good idea and maybe even a switch from the outside that can choke the gas lines. If you plan on modding it look into airbag suspension because if you lower it to shit when you park it burglars can’t get a tow truck to get under it. Garaging it will probably lower your risks too. Other than that they still go for pretty low but looking for one that isn’t a project might take awhile :p

I purchased my '90 black Si used in 1991. It had less than 10k miles on it then. Now it has 170k. It's still my daily driver. It's close to stock. Interior is completely stock but the driver's seat is getting really worn out. I've added old 1st generation Neuspeed Sport lower springs and Koni Sport shocks, a DC Sports header and had a custom exhaust system made when the stock one rusted out. That's it. I still have the stock suspension springs, but the current setup is still very comfortable and offers more responsive handling. Stock Flint Black Metallic paint. I had a compression test performed a couple years ago and all 4 cylinders still had new-like compression. The oil level stays the same between oil changes. 27-years-old and still going strong.

So many modders end up modding these to death and losing tons of money in upkeep. Modders turn them to race cars only to have their thrills turn to dust when it starts to burn oil, begins to leave them stranded and start to burn their wallets.They end up losing interest when their owner satisfaction plummet And in the end they have a car that is no different to the other CRX on the meet or street and a car too hard to sell for a decent return.

Funny how keeping it clean (stock and very very original) turns heads and inquisitive looks (double takes) now days. With onlooking eyes that seem to say ... this is not real as I always saw these modified and thrashed and that was years ago! When these were stock ... people modified them to be DIFFERENT and FEEL cool Now people return them to stock and original look to be DIFFERENT and FEEL cool. The car has not changed only the people. Shows how kids (immature not necessarily young) who have now grown up have learned how to appreciate these cars for what they are (their shape, feel, sound and other intrinsic values). The sad part is only after driving several of these and other fine cars to the ground and verge of extinction. 20 years ago if they had KZitem people would thumb you down for showing a near stock car.

The car is beautiful. I owned a 88 CRX-HF; absolutely loved it. I drove it through the bending, rollercoaster backroads of the Ozarks and its double wishbone suspension and short wheel base sucked up and held the car to the road. I've never driven anything like it. I had it for 8 years. I bought a Miata shortly after that. It was a wildly intoxicating car too, but after a year or so, I was tired of all the feed back the car sent up to the driver. So, the CRX was the best car because the way it handled and the precision of the manual gears. It had enough isolation, but its road holding ability was just awesome. Congratulations on having one in stock condition. The amazing thing is, it doesn't look all that dated even after 30 years.
