The combination of different inks made that. Saw it before in a friend's pen. In that case it was used first Black Pelikan and after that the pen was filled with Blue Parker without cleaning it. No wander the pen was not working. The feed was filled with blue rubber.

I had this pen, same year, same resin. I had the same problems. I had Parker swap nibs. When that didn't work I had Parker tune the nib. No luck on that, either. I thought it was me but then came to the conclusion that it was the nib and feed assembly. I sent it back to Parker, explaining the dryness of the nib and was told there was nothing they could do. When the pen was bought, it had a ten year warranty which they did not honor, saying I had misused the pen and the warranty was void. I sold the pen, vowing never to buy another Parker fountain pen. I do have one Parker, a 180, that works perfectly. That was made in the US. This Centennial was made in the UK.

Your persistence is amazing and admirable, especially on a vintage pen. When you dropped the nib from the feed I cringed. You did the owner a great service.

Hard, sometimes, to realise that a pen made when I was in college could be considered "vintage" by some. Nice work and save! Like I've told several who have interest in "vintage," slow and patience. Exactly like you did. Eliminate issues from the cheapest to fix upwards. Excellent work!

Beautiful fountain pen. I remember seeing these pens as a kid in the 80s, at my local (now closed) Fahrney's Fine Pens in my downtown. Now there's a retailer that I wonder is still around.

Nice job cleaning out the feed. I think someone tried to use dip pen ink. That stretchiness reminds me of coagulated latex.

@@InkquiringMinds, I’ve never used calligraphy ink, but a quick review of ingredients shows gum arabic or other thickening agents. A list of home made ingredients includes glue. So it’s quite possible that someone tried to use calligraphy ink on that Duofold.

That blue gunk has to be manufacturer applied contact cement. I guess friction fit wasn't enough, they wanted to seal that sucker in place. Which created more problems than it should have.

I'm not sure Stefan. It was so haphazardly placed. It looks like an amateur "repair".
@stefanwood2182

@@InkquiringMinds even worse. What would be the need for it? The gunk? Because even though it looks haphazard, there might be some "logic" to the placement. On the bottom, and on the sides.
@InkquiringMinds

@@stefanwood2182 Anything that might get into the fins of the feed is bad. The only thing I can think is, someone tried to glue the nib/feed into the section for some reason. The Parker Centennial nib/feeds were NOT glued into the section by Parker at the time of manufacture.
