I always loved CBS College Football intros in the 80s. They made it sound even more bigger of a game than it already was.

@jason smith Jim Nantz. 1st PC correct anchor I can remember. He said (on Frasier's run against FL) How many tackles can 1 man break vs How many tackles can 1 team miss. (missed tackles is the metric, not broken tackles) The first gives the black QB credit without calling out all the blacks that missed him, vs The second does not give the QB credit and at the same time it make all the blacks that missed him look bad.

Great times. I was at that game and there was frenetic electricity on every play. The H Boys were the real deal and so many other great players on that Buff’s team. Absolutely loaded.

This was an amazing game--emotions rocketing in to the stratosphere, two teams hitting their season peak and throwing absolute haymakers at each other on big plays, the whole thing coming down to the last play. It's still one of the best and most memorable I've ever seen.

As a CU grad who suffered through the early 80s including 2 losses to Drakes(!), both at home, the second one a blowout, I remember watching this game on TV with anticipation. The entire game, my feet were ice cold, my hands were wet, and my heart would not stop pumping extra hard, all the way to the end of the game. This win made up the heartbreak loss one year earlier when CU lost at Nebraska 7-0 when JJ Flanigan broke away for a TD and inexplicably fumbled all by himself with wide-open field in front of him! Great time back then whenever CU played Nebraska. Big deal for CU, just another game for Nebraska, mostly.

This was one of the most hate-driven rivalries in college football history. When I hark back to these games, I remember the chants of “Go Big Red! Sal is dead!” And when the Colorado and Nebraska student sections got kicked out of the stadium for starting a full-on rumble with each other.

After this game during the basketball season that year, we went to see CU play NU in basketball at Lincoln. Driving into Nebraska somebody had written 'SAL IS DEAD' in huge letters across the highway. NU had some really low class fans.

89 to 91 were probably Tom Osborne’s three weakest teams. After the loss to Georgia Tech in the 91 Citrus Bowl he actually contemplated retirement. One of his players, can’t remember the name, stood up and gave an impassioned speech and hugged Coach Osborne in front of the whole team. After that everybody redoubled their efforts, the coaches made the decision to start recruiting more speed, the defense changed to a more aggressive 4-3 scheme, and the rest is history. Compare this Nebraska team to the ones in the mid 90’s and the difference in speed is very clear. It’s also noteworthy how much Colorado would change. This Colorado team is built on Power football and the Option along with an aggressive defense. By 93 that would change to a more wide open, spread Passing attack behind Kordell Stewart.

Those Nebraska teams in the mid 90s were a great combination of speed with that power. Also when Nebraska lost to Washington in 91, you saw the change for more speed. Not surprising they would beat Miami and Florida to win the NC's

@@allengreene9954 Are you ignorant or just have a really bad memory? In the mid to late 90s Nu beat Cu during a five game stretch by a total by 17 points total. That was barely a 3 point average win. If that what you call beating a team like a drum, you must be a horrible drummer.
