They had a awsome ride. And it was a good over the road car. The only real flaw with this car was the307 was so weak, by all rights it had the Olds 350 engine. Many made the swap. And it became the car you didnt want to stop driving as well. The 350 and that 4 speed automatic was a nice match. And the gas mileage was exactly the same..so it must have been a emissions move on GM's part to put the 307 in that car. Because otherwise they would have just been playing stupid to put the 307 in there when the 350 gave it the right level of power and got the same gas mileage

I used to patch the laminate behind the rear doors on my old man's '85 Caprice Estate which furniture laminate from shelving. 20 years ago you couldn't sell these, no one wanted them. This makes me miss my 1983 Olds Ninety-Eight Regency Brougham sedan, medium blue metallic on blue velour inside. I bought it in 1990 when the car was 6 years old. It had both driver and passenger vanity mirrors. It had the cornering lamps and the hood mounted fiber optic indicators. It had an oversized moon roof, mirrored on the outside for one-way glass. Full power electric seats both driver and passenger. Tilt and telescopic steering column. Lighters in both rear door ash trays. Fluorescent full height opera lights on the door columns outside. The car was loaded to the gills. After a year and a half owning it, it was stolen. Broke my heart. Never saw it again. Anthony, this wagon, all be it not a sedan, is beautiful! I love how it can actually haul full sheets of plywood, drywall, etc. If needed. I would not want to subject such a jewel as this to such rigorous service, but it does show the versatility this car had in the day.

I'd pull that engine and drop a 350 olds in there and run a quiet dual exhaust system and the power would be right on point with that transmission. I did that with a Chevy Caprice wagon which had a 307 olds engine in that wagon also. All of the front engine mounts bolted right up. Had to change nothing. The exhaust manifold pipe was larger, so you have to order exhaust system for a 78 or 79 model that came with the 350 and 403 engines
